The history of optical accessories in Milford, Connecticut goes back to the early 1800s. One of the first companies to sell optical devices and supplies was The Optical Laboratory, located on Main Street in Milford. In 1876, Dr. George Earle organized a group of scientists and engineers to develop a new type of camera that could take photos with an aperture wider than any ever used before. The Camera Company was founded by Dr. Earle and his colleagues and became one of the most successful businesses in America during the 1880s and 1890s. In 1903, Milford's first movie theater opened on Elm Street called "The Paramount". This movie theater was quickly becoming one of the biggest attractions in town, hosting films for all audiences from throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. During this time, Milford also became home to one of America's leading lightbulb manufacturers - General Electric Corporation - which manufactured fluorescent lights until 1978. By the turn of the century, advancements had been made in photography technology so that motion pictures could be created using smaller lenses and larger film sizes. With this change came a corresponding increase in demand for optical equipment used for cinematography - especially large-aperture reflex cameras (LARCs). As LARC technology continued to evolve, MILFORD became known as one of its key players in this exciting industry. In 1952, MILFORD acquired Sellers & Gamble fame when it merged with their company Pabst Blue Ribbon cigarettes into what would become known as "MILFORD PACKARD COMPANY". In 1969, MILFORD sold its entire audio/visual products line to Philips Electronics Corporation - giving rise to what is now known as "Philips Trinket Technology", Inc.. In 1868, the village of Milford (later incorporated as a city) was established just south of the original town site. The growth of Hartford and other cities led to increased transportation needs for goods and people in the early 20th century and accordingly, infrastructure improvements were made in Milford including the construction of several bridges over Long Branch Brook and Newtown Creek. Milford is a town in Connecticut, located just northwest of Hartford. The population was 11,592 at the 2010 census. Milford has been inhabited since 9600 BC and became an open-air trading post in 1275. In 1664, Colonel John Smith founded the town and named it for his father, Sir John Smith. In 1814, Milford was incorporated as a village by act of the Connecticut General Assembly. The first store opened in 1821. In 1832, Norwich Railroad reached Milford through the town and soon after businesses began to flourish in the new community. Growth continued until 1926 when commercial development resulted in encroachment on residential areas which caused concern about traffic congestion and loss of privacy for residents. By 1960, only 1/3 of the original acreage remained within the town limits; however this growth did not result in any significant decreases in population or economy as land values increased rapidly due to suburbanization around Milford and other towns adjacent to it. In 1959, much controversy erupted over plans to build a shopping mall near Milford’s downtown square – dubbed “The mall at Ridgway” – after businessman James Ridgway offered to donate $5 million towards its construction if it were part of a proposed bypass highway connecting Hartford with New Haven County. This proposal failed to receive consent from either local residents or state legislators who felt that such a project would have negative effects on both communities’ economies and quality of life while impacting green space surrounding them unnecessarily. Nevertheless, by 1962 only 2/3 of what had once been purchased from Ridgway remains within town limits today; this slowing down of growth has largely prevented any major developments from taking place within the historic district which contains some 8400 years old documented architecture including 10 churches and two Masonic lodges dating back to 1540 AD as well as three Indian mound sites dating back more than 4500 years! Today, much like henyarison before him - one man's dream become reality - Mayor Tony Zanatta has spearheaded efforts aimed at revitalizing downtown Milford with help from both private donors and government funding sources including grants administered by Regional Planner Jon Boggs along with support from members of The Town Council; makingmilfordsouthwestcoastthenextbigthing! With new restaurants opening up daily along with live music offerings monthly (from start early morning until late night), arts & culture are becoming increasingly popular among locals while also attracting tourists looking for unique experiences outside OfHartford area !
