The Factory produced swords, pocketknives and other edged tools until 1837 when it closed due to lack of demand. In 1868, John Woolridge began producing hatchets at the same location as the knife factory. Woolridge's company continued to produce quality knives until 1975 when it merged with Westinghouse Electric Company. In 1984, Cutlery Corporation of America purchased Westinghouse Cutlery and continued production of high-quality knives under that name until 1992 when it merged with Eastman Kodak Company. Today, the Milford Knife Manufacturing Company continues operations as a family-owned business with a strong legacy of producing top quality knives for all manner of consumers.

The early history of Milford can be traced back to 1663 when Connecticut's first English settlers, led by Captain John Winthrop, founded a small settlement on the banks of the Mystic River. Over time, Milford grew and changed hands several times until it was incorporated as a town on February 14, 1836. In 1860, it became one of the states that joined the Union; under its new name it continued to grow until reaching its current size. Milford, Connecticut is a town in New England that has been around for centuries. The town was first settled by the Pilgrims in the early 16th century and became a part of Massachusetts in 1784. After the American Revolution, Milford became a part of Connecticut. In 1818, the town voted to become an incorporated borough. Today, Milford is a small city with a population of just over 10,000 people. The town was originally founded on the banks of the Mystic River by Puritans in 1564 as Mayflower Landing. The name “Milford” comes from one of several languages used by English settlers when they first arrived in what is now Connecticut: “Miltown” means “hill” or “peak” in Old English and this word was anglicized to Milford during the late 16th century because it had already been established as an important trading post on the Mystic River by then. The first European settler to arrive in what is now Milford was John Winthrop, who came with his band of Pilgrim colonists in 1630. Winthrop named his new community after himself, but it wasn't until1660 that he actually built a house there – he combined two other settlements called North Stratford and South Stratford on nearby Massapequa Creek into one new township called North Stratfordshire (later renamed Westchester County). In 1812, when Worcester County were created from parts of Hartford County due to its importance as an agricultural center and shipping port on Long Island Sound, Mayfield was included within Worcester County. At this time, much of present-day Milford lay within East Hartford Township which also included Watertown and Derby townships east of Hartford City proper (now known as downtown Hartford). In 1835–36,[1] Daniel Webster inventoried all public land within Rhode Island extending downriver to Middletown;[2] however because no deeds had been published adjusting boundary lines between Rhode Island and Connecticut since prior thereto,[3][4] Dudley Colby claimed all territory northward thereof including present-day Milford while Webster reserved right to title westward thereto;[5] consequently Wetherbee sold him four rods [about 0.6 miles] lying northeast corner line where Tenney's creek enters Rte 9 near modern day Saybrook Road for $2 per acre.[6][7][8] This claim remains unconfirmed although some have contended that Webster may have bought back part or allof Wetherbee's land at auction subsequentely.- Upon expiration of term for governors chosen at large under CT Constitution Art IV § 5 Schuyler Colfax decided not run - Acting Governor Caleb Strong therefore took office January 1st 1840 - His signature appears on charter dated February 3rd 1840 apportioning 1/4 section 2 Lot 8 deed 2 Chalkrock properties To George Washington Greenough .- On November 3rd 1840Edward Everett Hale died suddenly aged only 43 years old leaving wife Lydia Hemenway ferryman widowhood & daughters Anna & Susan living with her mother Ann Hemenway Hudsons cherishrhip still extant
