The town was originally called “Milton” after John Milton, one of the greatest authors of the English Revolution of 1688. Milton was a political opponent of King George III and spent time in jail for his beliefs. In 1807, the town renamed itself “Milford” in honor of Milford Haven, a port on Long Island that served as a stop on the Pilgrim journey to America. Gun rights activists first started wearing firearms t-shirts in Milford during the 1960s when they began protesting against gun control laws passed by then-Governor Abraham Lincoln. In 1966, Gun Owners of America (GOA) organized a rally and parade to demand repeal of state gun control regulations. At that rally, GOA members wearing firearms t-shirts became known as “the Pistol Packers” because they were responsible for policing the event. After President Lyndon Johnson signed landmark gun control legislation into law in 1968, GOA stopped wearing firearms t-shirts and transitioned into full campaign mode. In 2015, GOA announced plans to hold an annual firearm festival in conjunction with its annual meeting which would occur at Fairfield County Fairgrounds across from State Capitol Complex in Hartford. This would be their largest outdoor gathering since 1977 when they held their first national convention at Canandaigua Community College gymnasium overlooking Lake Ontario outside Buffalo New York City! Milton, Connecticut is a small town in Hartford County, Connecticut. The population was 18,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-New Britain metropolitan area. Milford has been home to Anglican and Lutheran churches since 1638. The first European settler in what is now Milford was Nicholas Stowe in 1638. A magazine article from 1892 reports that Mr. Stowe "founded a church here on May 3d (1638), and resided until his death." William Conger also settled in this area in 1639, but his remains were never found and he may have been killed by natives while exploring the area. In 1784, Major John Trumbull came to Milford with 20 troops as part of the American Revolutionary War effort. He erected a frame house on College Hill which became known as "Trumbull's Castle". In 1802, Colonel Jabez Northup arrived with 1st US Infantry Regiment and built a storehouse on Main Street which became known as "Northup's Fort". In 1814, during the Mexican–American War, Captain James Brainard of Hartford County militia lead an attack against Mexican forces at San Fernando Mission near present day Trumbullsville without firing a shot although it was unarmed - one of only two such raids during the war (the other being by Colonel Nathaniel Lyon). A year later Major General George Clinton ordered Ulysses S Grant to march southward through western New England towards Mexico City under cover of darkness and discovered that there were no Mexicans living or guarding any positions resisting his approach; accordingly Grant called off his march after reaching Monterrey Bay on October 25th1815 without encountering any hostile opposition either from Mexicans or Americans living within easy reach‎‎ outside of Hartford County limits... ‎Milford residents would continue to enjoy close proximity to military activity for many years thereafter; for example when federal troops burned down Trumbullsville’s jail in 1903 they destroyed all but one brick due to concerns about possible Indian attacks ‎During World War II various factories located throughout eastern Connecticut produced munitions for both Allied and Axis forces; including nearby Bridgeport which manufactured torpedoes used by Japan during its Pacific campaign Today Milford is home to over 20 businesses offering services such as dining establishments, florists/gardeners/concerned citizens groups,. retail outlets including an Rite Aid Pharmacy and several major retailers like Macy's Department Store are located within walking distance along with numerous small businesses catering specifically to local needs

The chance discovery of lead ore in 1827 led to the development of what would become one of America's largest lead mines; today, Cadmium Minerals Inc.'s plant produces around 50% of all global cadmium production. In 1896 the city of Norwich opened its new municipal hall which remains one of the most beautiful examples still extant from that period in American architecture (the building has been turned into an event space). At that time only 1% percent Of total US population lived within commuting distance to work while more than 3 out 5 Americans lived on less than $10 per day income and over 50% live below poverty line levels! By 1900, Milford had more than 12,000 residents. The town experienced considerable growth during World War II, when it became one of the largest military communities in New England. However, Milford’s prosperity abruptly ended in the 1970s as a result of economic decline in surrounding towns. Today, Milford is an agricultural community with a population of around 1,500 people.
