Milford is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 21,075 at the 2010 census. The name "Milford" is derived from the Lenape word "militia," meaning "a company of scouts." As early as 1664, Milford had been a stop on the Ipswich Branch of the Connecticut River Railroad. In 1806, General Samuel Prescott set out from Milford to explore what became New England. He and his army were met at Newtown by Colonel Augustus Cole and other Milfordians who furnished them with rifles and shotguns to fight off any Indians they might meet. In 1827, Amos Kendall founded a mercantile business in Milford which grew into Kendall & Company until it merged with Nicholas Biddle's Store in 1875. That year also saw the opening of first post office in town - “The Post Office” opened on October 9th of that year under chartered mail service between Hartford and Portsmouth (now part of Salem), NH In 1840, when Yale University moved to New Haven from Stamford, CT., it occupied an entire block on Market Street between State and Church Streets and constructed its own building on what is now Constitution Avenue NW near present-day Union Station NW. For many years Yale used Cowles' Hall as its main offices but finally demolished that structure in 1927 following heavy use forMQT performances by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt during World War II As commercial businesses developed throughout downtown Hartford during this time period (1875-1940), so too did binoculars sales increase as people began looking for higher quality equipment for their outdoor activities such as hunting or fishing trips or birdwatching outings

Milford is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-New Haven metropolitan area. It is named after Milford Bridge which crossed the Long Island Sound to connect New London with Stamford and other towns in Conn., as well as its role as a stop on the Stagecoach Road route. The first settler in what became Milford was Nicholas Pynchon who arrived in 1664. In 1838, Edward Everett Hale purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) of land east of present-day Main Street from John Fenton for $700. Milford's first post office was established in 1839 and took its name from MILFORD BRIDGE over LONG ISLAND SOUND, which connected NEW LONDON with STRASBOURG and other towns on CONN’susr side of LONG ISLAND SEA). A second post office operated from 1860 to 1865; it was renamed Newton after Amos Newton who donated land for it on Long Island Sound. The town seat until 1886 was located at Saybrookville; however, because Saybrookville had no water supply and could not be built upon without ruining the river bottomland, the town charter called for Saybrookville to become a "township" within Milford limits – but this never happened due to strong objections by residents of neighboring Newtown (then North Holland). In 1892–93 an electric streetlight system replaced traditional hand-pump lights throughout most of the community; this made life much easier for those living near downtown where there were now always lighted streetsides instead of dark lanes between homes and businesses. The first school opened in 1898 using brick buildings on South Main Street across from today's Post Office building; that building still stands and serves as home to First Congregational Church (now known as Stroudsburg Presbyterian), which moved into its current location here in 1907. The economic downturn during the 1990s caused many small businesses to close their doors or lay off workers; however, some brave souls decided to keep going even though times were tough by setting up shop inside their homes or using outside contractors to do their work while they waited out economic better days.. One such business owner - Vernon 'Buzz' White - set up his own lawn care service out his house through 2015 despite facing stiff competition from larger companies that offered more affordable rates and same quality products.. Businesses like Buzz's have helped revive once-downtrodden neighborhoods like Pinecrest Village since then - something that can only happen when community members come together and share ideas about how they want things to look & feel!

However, recent growth has brought new development such as an ice skated rink in downtown Milford and several restaurants in recent years that have helped revive the economy of the town.

Milford's present-day buildings date back to 1881 when the town was incorporated. In 1907, a large millinery shop and several other businesses were built on Main Street. The mill closed in the early 1960s but left a lasting legacy of commercial storefronts and a strong community spirit.
