Milford was first settled in 1638 by the Pequot people. The town was named for John Milford, an Englishman who bought land in 1638. A mill was built in 1796 and became the center of the community. In 1858, a post office was established and remained in operation until 1906. The town went through several name changes during its history, including White Sands (1869), Easton (1871), and Rehoboth Beach (1906).In 1942, local residents supported the United States during World War II by contributing munitions to the war effort. The town also played a role in economic development after the war, becoming known as a major production center for ammunition. During this time, Milford also became home to two universities: Yale University and Brown University. In 2004, Milford voters approved a $5 million bond referendum to improve infrastructure such as roads and water systems. This event marked the beginning of significant redevelopment within the community which is now known as "The Hub."

Milford is a town in northern Connecticut, United States. The population was 11,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Milford–Bridgeport metropolitan area. The first white American settlers in what is now Milford arrived in 1664, when some men and women under the leadership of Captain John Smith explored new territory north of Hartford. In 1768, they founded a small town on the west bank of the river Mill River which they named for their then-townsend neighbor, Sir George Carteret Milford (1654-1736). It was not until 1820 that Colonel Elijah Morse offered to create an incorporated village within Milford limits and this offer was accepted. On July 6, 1824, selectmen from different towns within Milford voted to establish a school district with headquarters in Milford. The first building on what became Main Street was built as a schoolhouse and continued to serve as such until 1958 when it was replaced by the current structure. A second school house also served as an courthouse from 1825 to 1928 before being replaced by the present structure. In 1846, Congregationalists organized a church here and soon after began ministering to both English and German immigrants who had come overland from Germany during the Famine of 1840-1841. Reverend James Sibley officiated at services at First Parish Church from 1846 to 1850; Rev ardent Nathaniel Hawthorne led services there from 1850 until his death in 1865; Rev Moses Sherman officiated at Second Parish Church from 1865 until its closure in 1902; Reverend Augustus Kelley conducted services at Third Parish Church beginning in 1903 until his death in 1906. The first African American pastor occurred here when Reverend Wm Norris baptized Ebenezer Baptiste on October 15th, 1907. Heavily populated areas along Interstate 95 made it necessary for Exit 9A off I-95 near Bridgeport to be opened specifically for vehicular traffic coming into or leaving New Haven County while residents were still using Route 2 which passed through town center with no exits or bypasses other than two short blocks leading directly up Mill River Road which connected with I-95 just east of town limits

In 1881, Congress added Bridgeport to CT as a result of an act entitled "An Act for organizing and maintaining Corporation Courts within each State". This act created Bridgeport Municipal Court which replaced various other local courts throughout the state including those located in Derby, West Hartford, Farmington Hills and Danbury which were all abolished by Congress under President James K Polk's administration because they were deemed unconstitutional government monopolies). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2000 there are 8,811 people living in Milford who identify as being "Hispanic or Latino", making it one of the most diverse towns in Connecticut with a population over 10 thousand residents! Hispanic or Latino residents make up 9% of total residents while White residents make up 96% of total residents
