In 1784–85 John Trumbull founded Trumbull College (now Yale University) on a tract of land that had been purchased from Nicholas Southworth three years earlier. Over time other colleges were founded here including American (1819), Brown (1901), and Stonington (1959). More than 40% of the current workforce is resident within five miles of their workplace; this includes more than half of all manufacturing jobs in town. Hartford Mayor Joseph Ganim has said that if elected mayor in November 2014 he would like to see "the most significant economic development project [in] downtown Hartford since Prohibition." On July 1st2015 there will be a grand opening for 6 new businesses located across from CCNY with over 100 jobs being created throughout the whole process!

Milford, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 28,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Hartford–New Britain metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Milford were Pilgrims who founded Plymouth Colony in 1620. The town was organized as a village on November 14, 1812 by order of Governor George Washington as part of Hartford Township. On December 9, 1814 a committee appointed to take care of boundary lines between Milford and WestHartford townships recommended that the town should be enlarged eastward to include the land now included in EastMilford and SouthMilford townships. In 1824 the eastern boundary was extended westward to make room for new settlements on both sides of the river Mystic which flows through the town center. In 1837 an act was passed by Congress providing for township organization within Hartford County and creating four townships: NorthHartford (later Hartington), SouthHartwich (later Southbury), EastMilford (laterEast Granby), and WestMilford (laterWest Greenwich). On July 1, 1840, Milfords merged with neighboring West Windsor into one incorporated town known as "WestWindsor". On February 17, 1860 Governor John Fenton granted a charter to Yale University making it one of only two private universities in Connecticut; other institutions had been chartered by Acts of Parliament since 1696-1784 when they were either proprietary schools or military academies. Yale became one of several American universities exempted from paying tithes until after World War II because its endowment exceeded $1 million sterling per year—an exemption that continued until 1988 when all American universities were required to pay tithes according to government regulations. During prohibition years Milfords supplied bootleggers with liquor from various states including Rhode Island which also furnished whiskey to nearbyBridgeport during prohibition years while Bridgeport refused to do so because it violated state law prohibiting alcohol sales within city limits The first post office opened in 1811 and remained open until 1888 when it was replaced by an insurance company building which still stands today although used for other purposes such as storage now .
