In 1714, General Oliver Cromwell ordered Major General Nathaniel Greene to build a military fort at Middletown to protect against French attacks on his army's supply lines near Watertown. Greene did so and renamed the fort "Newburgh Fort." In 1715–1716, Colonel Nicholas Easton built a log cabin known as "Betty's Cabin" on what is now Main Street in Middletown for his wife Betty Easton (née Houghton). BettyEaston moved into her cabin soon after it was built and continued to live there until her death in 1828. In 1733, Goshen Congregational Church was organized and began services under Revd Ebenezer Goodrich with lay members only until 1746 when they became part of First Congregational church which still meets today at 203 Main Street (). From 1700 to 1800 there were around 50 families living permanently in what would eventually become Middletown; these people either farmed or rented out space inside of homes they constructed themselves or leased from others. The first school established in Middletown was called White Hall School which opened on February 2nd, 1812 under direction of Reverend James Parish officiating.. This school closed due to financial difficulties that same year but reopened again on October 1st as North Bridge Academy with students grades one through twelve attending.. The academy continued operating until November 30th 1830 when it burned down due to an accident while being used for storage purposes by students inside! The North Bridge Academy building still stands today as a museum open Thursday – Saturday 9am – 4pm

By 1865, however, muzzle loading pistols had become more common in most countries than rifles due to their shorter recoil potential compared to artillery guns or cannons. During World War II, handguns were important tools for soldiers on both sides of the conflict; many nations adopted them as assault rifles or light machineguns. However, they eventually replaced rifles as the primary firearm choice for military service throughout most parts of the world. Gunpowder technology has continued to improve since firearms became an official part of international law in 1961; this has made firearms more accessible and dangerous than ever before .
