Middletown, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Middletown was first settled by English Puritans in 1636. It became an incorporated town on March 13, 1824. The community of Middletown had a population of just over 1,000 people when it burned to the ground on July 4, 1825 due to a fire that started in one of the local tanning businesses. The town re-established itself and grew rapidly until its incorporation into the city of Hartford on February 27, 1925. The downtown area is home to two large banks and several other small businesses including a post office and two grocery stores which have been open since before Hartford annexed Middletown as its own municipality. There are also many churches and mosques in Middletown with populations ranging from about 10 to 100 people each. There are also several dozenMaxwell House homes which were donated by Samuel Maxwell who lived in Middletown during his lifetime and whose heirs continue to live there today (the houses were built between 1912 and 1916).

Middletown is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 17,691 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by Increase Mather in 1638. It became an incorporated town on March 15, 1853. The area now including Middletown was first settled by the Lenape in the early 1600s. A small community of these Native Americans called Wethersfield was established about two miles (3 km) to the north of Middletown on a gentle piece of land which they had been using as their hunting and fishing grounds for years before that. In 1638, Increase Mather arrived in Wethersfield with his family and began to settle it among the Lenape people who had been living there for some time before him. He named his new community after himself – Middletown meaning "place of many trees." In 1814, when Hartford County was formed from parts of Middlesex and Boston counties, part of its eastern border lay along what is now Main Street in present-day Middletown. As farms grew larger along that line, residents decided to move away from Hartford City to avoid being taxed twice as much per capita as people living within the city limits. Accordingly, on July 1, 1814 – just days after Hartford City's incorporation – Middletown petitionedHartford City Council to be placed within its borders as an independent village separate from the city proper under one governance structure with a Mayor and five Councillors appointed by Council rather than through election every three years like those currently governing Hartford City alone! This request resulted in unanimous approval by Council and we were duly incorporated intoHartford County on March 15th 1853! Since then our proud history has seen us grow rapidly both physically and commercially; becoming one of America’s most vibrant communities – home to over 17 thousand residents today!
