After several moves over time, Green Gables Elementary School moved to its current location on South Elm Street in 1903 before being replaced by Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School District #1's Stonington High School building in 1957 which still stands today as one of America's most iconic high schools (). Brady Manufacturing Company opened its doors here on Broadway in 1922 and remain an anchor tenant until this day; their products include air guns, hunting rifles and shotguns, handguns and ammunition among many others.. Brady Manufacturing closed its doors for good in 2000 but has since been reborn as My Brother’s Gun Works Inc., currently located just east of downtown Meriden off Route 9 New Haven Road ().
Meriden was founded in 1665 by Samuel Muckell and Richard Putnam. The town attained its current form in 1814 when it was organized as a village. It grew rapidly during the 19th century, reaching a population of over 100,000 by 1871. The growth ended after World War I due to the decline in manufacturing and the loss of jobs in Meriden. Despite this setback, the town has developed since then into an important commercial and cultural center for central Connecticut.
