The first white settler in what is nowmeriden was Moses Kimball who arrived around 1800 from Easton Township in Pennsylvania along with his family members Samuel (Samuel) Kimball (born 1768), Rebecca (Rebecca), Nathan Kimball (born 1770), Abigail (ABIGAIL) Kimball(born c1772), Mary Ann (.MARY ANN KIMBALL) born c1800 d1830 married Isaac Morse February 12th 1800 aged 45 years old son of Obadiah Morse of Farmington CT also resided here then moved to Newtown Ct later remaining there until his death on November 3rd 1865 Meriden enjoyed considerable growth during its early days due to its location close to Hartford City Center – home to banks, theaters and other businesses – as well as access to railroads that made it easy for goods to be transported across state lines. Merchants quickly realized that Meriden had potential as a commercial center due to its natural resources such as quarries, forests and water sources; moreover, people were drawn here because of its excellent education opportunities – including four high schools operated by the Congregationalist Church – as well as its community spirit which fostered support for various civic endeavors such as cricket leagues and benevolent societies. Over time however some residents found themselves left behind when new development began upriver or when transportation facilities became available nearer downtown Hartford; nevertheless many residents remained supportive of their hometown through both vibrant social activities including music festivals held annually at the nearby White Sands Park Resort & Casino or through volunteer work within their communities such as helping clean up local streets or playing vital roles within city government structures such as municipal courtrooms or city hall). Meriden, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut. It was founded on April 12, 1701 by Samuel Meriden and his wife Hannah. The town had a population of 524 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what would become Meriden were Quakers who arrived from Northampton County, Pennsylvania in 1715. They built the first permanent home there on Meetinghouse Hill. While some early residents of the current town were Quakers themselves, most people in the area started to settle around 1800 when land prices began to rise for reasons that remain largely unknown today. Some of the earliest businesses in the nascent community included mercantile firms such as Swift & Company and Horseshoe Tavern which continues to operate today as an independently owned business with multiple locations throughout central Connecticut. Another early business venture was a brewery called The Grist Mill which produced beer for local residents until 1811 when it became part of nearby Sturbridge Brewery. In 1827 John Wesley founded Methodism here and merited leadership within the religious movement after becoming pastor at Second Congregational Church (First Methodist) located just east of downtown Meriden. Methodism exerted its influence even further through religious schools established here including Dwight School (1836), Southwick School (1872), and Union Theological Seminary (1923). There have been several major changes to Meriden over time: -The merged towns of Stamford and Milford became one municipality in 1959; -The population peaked at 1,845 during the 1990 census; -However, since thenresidential growth has slowed while jobs have moved away from Downtown Meriden towards various suburban neighborhoods surrounding it; -In 2000, meridian mayor Edwin Wojciechowski unsuccessfully sought incorporation into New Haven but this didn't stop him from running for office again two years later as an Independent candidate against 4th Ward Councilman Rich Zuccotti Jr.;
