The Connecticut Colony was founded in 1624 on the site of old Meriden, now part of Hartford. The original settlers were Puritan Protestants from England who wanted to establish themselves in a new land. In 1898, when New Haven became an incorporated city, it decided that it needed its own police department so it merged withHartford City Police Department forming one unified force until 1923 when both departments separated again becoming their own separate entities once again! Firearms remained strictly prohibited within city limits until 1967 when New Haven repealed its prohibition ordinance making Carry on University campuses punishable by up to $5 per day fines for anyone found carrying any weapon onto campus regardless if it was unloaded!
