Ammunition production stopped completely during World War II due to wartime restrictions on weapons use. In 1951, the company that built Derby’s first factory was purchased by Remington Arms Company. Over the next several years, Remington Arms Company worked to improve the quality of their products and expand their operations in Derby. In 1968, they opened a second factory in Watertown which increased production capacity by 50%. Today, Remington Arms Company produces a wide range of firearms including shotguns, rifles and pistol rounds. Their products are distributed throughout North America as well as internationally.

There have been many owners of land in Derby over its history including: Samuel Morse (founder of Western Union), Nathan Hale (captain in American Revolutionary War), Isaac Brock (Governor of Connecticut), Augustus Weeks (founder of Yale University) and Cotton Mather ( Harvard professor). In 1820 Derby developed into one of the most important textile towns in America due to its production of cotton yarns which were exported all around the world. In 1850 Derby became home to what is now known as Middlebrook Park which served as a model for later amusement park developments throughout America such as Universal Studios Orlando and Six Flags Over Georgia. However, it declined following World War II until development began anew around 1990 that has seen former factory sites turned into mixed-use neighborhoods complete with grocery stores and other retailers along with iconic buildings like Harry Houdini's escape room called "Houdini Hall" located just off Main Street across from downtown derby center mall). On November 11th 2018 a tornado touched down near derby center Mall killing 3 people before dissipating two hours later
