Derby, Connecticut is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Connecticut. It was first settled in 1639 by people from London. The population was 738 at the 2000 census. Derby has a rich history dating back to when it was a part of Rhode Island. The first white person to live in Derby was John Smith, who arrived in 1642. Derby became part of Connecticut on April 14, 1785. The official name for Derby until 1888 was "Middletown". In 1892, the town had a population of 4,579 and annexed the neighboring town of East Hartford. Today, Derby has a population of 8,558 and is considered one of the most diverse towns in Connecticut. Derby's economy relies heavily on its agriculture sector which produces hay, corn meal, carrots and other vegetables as well as cheese and meat products such as bacon and ham. Additionally, there are several small businesses that provide services such as plumbing and electrical work; this helps keep the town running smoothly despite having few residents with professional backgrounds outside their fields of expertise

In 1851, American John Browning patented an airgun that he called theBrowning Automatic Rifle (BAR). The BAR was more powerful than any other rifle at the time it was created and could fire up to twenty rounds per minute. It had a barrel that was about seventy-five inches long and could be held in either hand. In 1892, Russian inventor Dmitry Dokuchaev invented the first revolver using compressed gas as propellant instead of gunpowder. This device was called the Dokuchaev–Rikhter pistol. The Dokuchaev–Rikhter Pistol is still in use today and can be fired with either manual or power modifications. In 1903, German scientist Zeuss developed a shotgun using recoil energy rather than gunpowder to fire projectiles from a barrel about six inches long at distances up to fifty yards. He named his invention the Zeuss Shotgun after his own ancestral home near Frankfurt am Main in Germany where he lived during these years. Over time, different manufacturers produced various types of airguns including revolvers (eighty percent of all firearms manufactured between 1893 and 1934), semi-automatic pistols (thirty percent of all firearms manufactured between 1893 and 1934), shotguns (seventy percent of all firearms manufactured between 1893 and 1934), autoloaders (eighteen percent of all firearms manufacturing between 1893 and 1934), muzzleloaders (eleven percent of all firearms manufacturing between 1893 and 1934), centerfire rifles (fourteen percent of all firearms manufacturing between 1893 and 1934)

Derby, Connecticut is a town located in the town of Derby, Connecticut. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Vermont Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Derby was James Brown who settled on a farm near what is now Derby in 1777. He and his wife Elizabeth had five children: John (1778-1846), Isaac (1780-1859), Jemima (1782-1864), Elijah (1785-1868) and Martha Jane (1787-1875). They were one of the earliest families to live in Derby and are buried there along with other early settlers including Gideon Granger and John Morse. In 1806 Samuel Tilton purchased land from James Brown for $3 per acre. At this time, Derby consisted of just a few homes and acres of forest land. Samuel Tilton built two small frame houses on his property which he named "The Oaks" after two oaks that he had seen growing near by on his farmstead. The first floor of each house housed four rooms with some kitchen space above that; upstairs there were three bedrooms, one bathtub/shower room and attic windows that looked out onto a large yard filled with toolsheds, stables, barns and other outbuildings used by local farmers during those years. In 1812 Samuel Tilton made an agreement with Drury & Smith to sell goods produced by their employees to consumers within 150 miles of Hartford through their store in Meriden called "The House on Main." This store became known as "The House on Main" because it occupied most of the ground floor frontage on Route 9 between North Capitol Street and Middle Street in downtown Hartford until its closure in 1912 when it moved uptown to First Congregational Church at 125 West Orange Avenue! Samuel Tilton also built another small frame house on his properties which he called "The Grange". That house still stands today next door to The Oaks where it has been used as office space since 1957! An important event that took place during these early days in Derby was when Revoice Potter organized a meeting at Trinity Episcopal Church parsonageeto discuss plans for an academy or school for young Ladies living near by who could not afford tuition at home! Reverend Potter's idea soon came into reality as the first Ladies' High School opened its doors September 3rd 1814! With such success accomplished so quickly, Reverend Potter decided it would be best if he relocated the school to another location so more girls could have access to education! Unfortunately due to financial constraints experienced by many early ladies educators throughout New England during this time period only one building remained standing from this original group - The Academy Building - which currently houses the old post office adjacent thereto! After Reverend Potter's relocation efforts failed however, plans began again for an academy or school for young ladies but once again Revoice Potter's ideas fell apart due weathering economic conditions instead resulting in only one building remaining standing from this original group - The Girls' Industrial School Building - which currently houses various businesses within walking distance thereof including several clothing retailers!!! Today we enjoy a very vibrant business community inside our recently renovated Girls’ Industrial School Building including over 25 businesses employing approximately 350 individuals!! A true testament to Revoice Potter's dedication towards education back then!!!!
