The Danbury Rifle and Pistol Club opened its first session on October 5, 1868. The club was organized as a rifle and pistol club by J.H. Botkin, who served as the first president of the club. The first meeting was held in the home of George Sibley and later at the Masonic Lodge located on Main Street in Danbury. On February 1, 1869, the Danbury Rifle and Pistol Club held their second meeting at Bellefontaine Hall. At this meeting, they adopted a constitution and bylaws that were approved by a vote of members present. On March 1, 1869, they established a rifle range located on State Road 10 west in Danbury. In 1870-71, membership rose to seventy-eight members with two new additions: Henery Cournoyer (a graduate of Yale University) and Edwin Glynne (president of Yale College). In 1872-73 meetings were held at various locations including Rockville Schoolhouse (later renamed East High School), but due to lack of space at Bellefontaine Hall many meetings were moved to other venues until May 26th when a permanent location for meetings was found at Willard's Hotel in downtownDanbury. On January 15th 1875 an agreement was reached between the NRA’s American Association for Shooting Sport Legislation (AASSL) committee & Danbury Rifle & Pistol Club which resulted in AASSL recognizing both organizations as official shooting organizations within its jurisdiction! This event marked an important milestone as it finally allowed firearms owners throughout Connecticut to join together under one umbrella! In 1886-87 membership grew rapidly with twenty new members joining from east Hartford while sessions continued to be held intermittently throughout the year elsewhere including Academy House on Spring Street in Watertown; First Congregational Church off Industrial Avenue in Norwalk; Elmira Fire Department’s gymnasium on Elmira Street; Winter Garden Baptist Church on Newnan Boulevard Southwest; Northbrook Presbyterian Church off Route 9 West near Endicott Air Force Base Membership slowly decreased through 1888 until it stopped altogether after September 1889 when state prohibition made handguns illegal

Danbury is a town in the state of Connecticut, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford–New Haven–Bridgeport metropolitan area. In 1837, Danbury was settled by Samuel Morse and his family on land that he donated to the town in memory of their father, also named Samuel Morse. The first post office in Danbury opened in 1839. The first store was built on Main Street in 1840. The name "Danbury" originated from a Native American word meaning "place for burying goods." In 1848, a canal was completed through the town and it became an important transportation hub for goods exported from New England and beyond. In 1865, danbywood Elementary School was founded and remains one of the city's most successful schools today with over 1,500 students enrolled across grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. due to its innovative curriculum which integrates art and science into daily instruction as well as its multi-cultural programming; Danbury has been called "The melting pot of Connecticut." One of America's longest running commercial aviation services began operations at Danbury Municipal Airport on November 12th 1959 when Eastern Airlines leased three Douglas DC-3s for use as flights to Boston Logan International Airport (LGA) during their popular winter season schedule. With such short notice Eastern Airlines had to find another airport to fly out passengers so they could be available when needed! The airports original runway length did not allow enough room for expansion so Eastern added a third runway which would eventually run parallel to this existing one providing more space! This made perfect sense because with more space there would be more potential customers who wanted or needed to do business within our community adding even more jobs! By 1978 Eastern had grown too large for their old airport so they moved all their operations downtown where we now stand – an amazing feat considering that back then new airports were only built after it had been bombed or destroyed! Since then some amazing things have happened at DMA including: being home to both Braniff Air Lines Headquarters until 1990 when Braniff merged with American Airlines; serving as the primary landing/ takeoff/landing strip for both Connnecticut Yankee Hockey League (CYHL) teams Bridgeport Sound Tigers(former AHL affiliate) until 2005 when all flying activities were relocated elsewhere including moving all taxiways 22′ wide & 10′ deep from Runway 17R/35L downslope onto 4x4 Race Track Road just east of I-95 . Finally becoming part of crosstown connecticut highway 30 forming what used to be called “The Loop”
Danbury was founded in 1694 by the Puritans. The town changed its name to Danbury in 1838, after the first railroad reached the area. In 1907, Danbury became a city.
