In 1892, Danbury became the first city in the U.S. to legalize airguns as a form of hunting. The following year, the city passed an ordinance regulating firearms and Ammunition in order to control crime and protect public safety. In 1916, Danbury’s law enforcement squad was formed with the goal of carrying out more comprehensive gun regulation measures. This led to the establishment of the state’s first Gun Control Board which operated until 1934. During World War II, airguns were used by members of the United States military in combat against Japan. Airguns were also used by civilians for target shooting during this time period. In 1945, Connecticut passed its own airgun regulation statute which banned possession and use of all types of airguns without a license from a town or village meeting held within one week after passage. In 1959, Connecticut introduced its own assault rifle legislation which would have made it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to possess or use an assault rifle without having first obtained a license from the police department or state government

Danbury has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European settlement; their longest continuous occupancy began in 1664 when English colonists arrived. The Dutch founded a settlements in what is now Danbury in 1674, and both groups claimed ownership of the area until 1814 when Congress transferred all Native title claims to the United States. In 1784, Daniel Webster became one of the first U.S. Senators from New England and he represented parts of south-central Connecticut including Danbury until his death in 1852. He remains one of only two people to have held that office twice (the other being James Ketterer). The town was first settled by Quakers who arrived during British rule in 1664 as part of an effort to settle land east of Hartford that had been acquired by Sir Edmund Andros as part of his purchase from Governor William Tryon for $10,000 (£6,500). They named their new community after Benjamin Westfall, who had served as an officer with Colonel John Archer's regiment during King George's War (1689-96) and then returned home to become a planter near Saybrook Valley where he built some elegant homes which remain standing today among ruins dating back to 1720 made out of red sandstone quarried nearby. In 1784, Daniel Webster became one of the first U.S. Senators from New England and he represented parts of south-central Connecticut including Danbury until his death in 1852; he remains one of only two people to have held that office twice (the other being James Ketterer). When Webster died suddenly at age 73 — just weeks before Election Day — many believed that Hartford would be chosen as his replacement because no other candidate could come close to matching his wealth or connections within Connecticut society.. However, Hartford instead nominated General Aaron Burr who won handily against Webster’s running mate Amos Eaton; Burr would later serve as Vice President under George Washington. With Burr’s victory came new opportunities for business development; thanks largely to canal construction starting up around this time there was increased trade between northern Europe and America which led to more jobs available for men throughout towns like Newtown and Wethersfield while also helping spur growth on riverfront areas such as downtown Danbury where warehouses were built along Second Street between Church Avenue and Constitution Avenue during this time period becoming known amongst locals simply as “The Warehouse District” due to their location just outside what is now State University Campus bounds making it easy access for goods coming into or going out from central Connecticut via waterways like the North River Gatekeepers Bridge linking Newtown with downtown Stamford/Westford/Norwich/East Windsor etc.; this developed into what is now Newark Penn Station serving Amtrak services northbound/southbound with limited stops at various points inside New York City but continuing service fully across Brooklynbridge Terminal JFK Airport beyond Queensboro Terminal 2 - making it one stop travel destination for passengers traveling within New York City limits without havingto go through Manhattan! One thing developing rapidly during this time period were stocks – especially those related directly to mills operated by giant companies like Eli Whitney & Sons which saw exponential growth thanks not only to increasing shipments arriving here but also investment into new technology accompanying them (eager buyers drove prices down resulting in millhands taking home more money each week than ever before!). This prosperity continued well into World War II however when war production brought about layoffs across entire industries followed quickly by rationing leading ultimately TO mass unemployment throughout much Northeast USA following Germany's invasion! After WW2 ended things started slowly again with inflationary pressures setting back economic progress once again; however over time evidence suggests things are slowly improving thanks largely To investments made both locally & nationally(particularly regarding renewable energy) along with efforts made both at state level( notably raising wages & passing important healthcare reforms )and internationally(such as co-ordinating climate talks) giving us today’s very different formative era characterized primarily by creativity rather than traditional industry dominance!
In 1664, the Englishtown Plantation was founded in what is now Danbury. The town was originally called Newtown and it was mentioned in a document from 1297. In 1714, the town became part of Connecticut. The first courthouse in Danbury was built in 1715. Danbury's nickname is the "City of Lights."
