After the war ended there were other waves of immigrants who came to live here such as Slovaks who had come overland through Hungary starting around 1915; Poles who had arrived following World War I; Italians who had always been a presence in this region since Roman times; Germans who had moved into what would become Hartford after defeat by France at Verdun; Swissmen who had immigrated all throughout central Europe before coming to this area specifically to find mineral rights near Waterford Springs Reservoir; Japanese Americans interned during World War II; Puerto Ricans active in commerce and agriculture here before being deported after Pearl Harbor; Koreans working on farms abroad before returning home during the Korean War etc.; these days there are still many residents from abroad living here permanently or coming here for short periods each year for cultural reasons etc., making up an estimated 80%+ percent of current population growth since 2000!
