Ansonia, Connecticut is a small town in the eastern United States. It is located on the southern bank of the Ansonia River, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Hartford, Connecticut. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,918. The name Ansonia derives from English settlers who named it after Anthony de la Halle Plantation in France. The first Europeans to come to Ansonia were two men from Massachusetts in 1624: John Winthrop and his brother Deputy Governor Samuel Winslow. They built a house here on what is now Main Street in 1630-32. A mill was founded here by Nicholas Weare in 1650; it still flourishes today as Weare's Millinery Shop. The early years of this century were difficult for Ansonia; during World War I its economy suffered because of prohibitionist policies enacted by President Woodrow Wilson that made goods available only to citizens who could prove they had bought them with their own money or obtained them through other means such as trade or barter. However, since 1919 when statehood became an issue within Connecticut and many residents chose not to secede until then, economic development has steadily been increasing throughout the decades – including significant growth recently due to government investment in green energy initiatives such as renewable energy credits and emissions trading programs targeting various industries). A new branch library opened at Main Street and State Street on December 1st, 2009 which replaced an older building which had been cited as hazardous by recent inspections rods done by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The old building had been damaged by fire several times over its previous use as a storeroom for local farmers’ markets before it finally caught fire in 2006; however no one was ever prosecuted for causing that damage because at that time no law required permits for activities like market burning that took place inside buildings used for storage purposes only. There have also been efforts made recently to bring more retail businesses into town although there are still some areas where most commercial activity takes place outside of town center due to zoning laws which do not allow much retail development near schools or other public places frequented by pedestrians and cyclists alike – though this has started to change somewhat with the opening last year of a large mixed-use development called "Town Center" which includes both retail and office space along with public transportation access via bike racks and bus stops right next door to several restaurants popular among locals looking for easy rides into downtown without having TO drive!

Ansonia, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 27,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bridgeport-Norwalk Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Ansonia were the Dutch in 1624 and they named it "Anderwijs". In 1814, Ansonia became a town under the name of honor of General James K. Polk due to his role in winning the Battle of San Jacinto. The current name comes from its founder, Nicholas Anson (1763-1825), an investor who founded what is now known as Yale University and developed much of downtown Ansonia into one of Hartford's most successful neighborhoods. The town was platted in 1796 by Captain John Stevens with land on which he erected a tavern and store house on Broadway Street between Water Street and Green Street. During slavery times many African Americans worked outside the white community as slaves or domestic servants. After emancipation in 1865, many black men began to move into Ansonia seeking opportunity and education within white society while others continued working within their families or businesses until after World War II when integration started officially taking place throughout America through desegregation busing programs

The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1795, the towns first courthouse was built. In 1802, Ansonia became part of Hartford County.
