Ansonia, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 21,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New England metropolitan area. The first European to visit Ansonia was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He named it after his birthplace, Anagni, Italy. The town was platted in 1785 by George Washington and Jonas Salk. In 1822 it became a part of Hartford County and had a population of 992. In 1838 the town voted to become an independent city and had a population of 3,609. The 38-acre (15-hectare) Central Park opened in 1903 and remains one of the largest open spaces inHartford County today. The industry that drove Ansonia's growth from its early days until the present day included manufacturing; printing; lumber; agriculture; transportation; fishing and hunting; as well as some light commercial activities such as retail trade and real estate development. Manufacturing production peaked during World War II with employment up to 60% of total output but slowly declined thereafter due to technological advances which made products more difficult or impossible to produce at scale for wartime use including jet engines and plastics . Today's economy is primarily based on services with a concentration around banking, health care, education and government relations including corrections/government services

Ansonia is a town in Connecticut, United States. The population was 11,577 at the 2010 census. Ansonia has been inhabited by the Ansonian culture for over two thousand years. It was first settled in 1634 by Roger Williams and his team of religious missionaries who founded the Rhode Island Colony. In 1797, Ansonia became part of the new state of Connecticut when it was formed from parts of New York and Massachusetts. The town's first mayor was Jonas Sargent. In 1812, General John Hawkins occupied Ansonia after a successful siege against Fort Stanwix in Canada; he burned all but one block of the town to prevent its capture or use as food for Native Americans. The community grew slowly until around 1830 when an Irish-born industrialist named Augustus Kelley began producing flour and other goods on his own account in what would become known as "Kelley's Mills". The mills attracted more settlers and By 1840, there were over 100 people living in Ansonia. However, during the American Civil War (1865–1868), Kelley's mills were destroyed by Confederate forces while they were being used as military barracks; most of his workers went missing or were captured. After the war, many residents left to find work elsewhere in Connecticut and New York City; however, some continued to live in poor condition within miles of Kelley's mills until they closed down around 1900 due to environmental problems caused by mining operations which had disturbed soil and water resources since ancient times. During World War II (1939–1945), local men helped build Air Force bases at Saybrook Naval Air Station () and Watertown Naval Air Station ().Following World War II, many residents moved back into their homes following economic growth that began with post-war stimulus programs such as government jobs available through local companies such as Lockheed Martin (). Many new homes were built along Route 26 (), which runs through downtown Ansonia.; this area experienced rapid development starting in the early 2000s with several high-rise buildings being built including One Bridge Street (), now known as Trump Tower ();[1] later renamed One Bridge Place (). The influx of new residents provoked crime rates to increase because there are limited police patrols available 24/7 due to budget cuts., although this trend started decreasing starting around 2007 when increased staffing began resulting from changes within FBI field office rankings [] In recent years crime rates have decreased again due largely to improved policing methods including using body cameras [] This paper will focus on history between 1800s until present day with particular attention paid towards events surrounding Augustus Kelley's Mills village located just east side Main Street () currently home to Walmart
