In 1969, Ansonia hosted its first ever NRA convention which drew over 100 attendees from around the world who came to learn more about firearm regulation and safety issues unique to Ansonia County residents only! Ansonia, Connecticut is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 10,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford–West Hartford–East Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Ansonia comes from Anacondas which were abundant in the area in the early 1800s when the first Europeans arrived. In 1824, Captain Jonathan Anson and his party discovered an island in what is now Lake George off the coast of Connecticut, and named it after this event. In 1865, General John A. Logan founded Westport Naval Shipyard there and developed it into one of America's leading shipyards during World War II. The current Main Street Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
