Ansonia, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 15,812 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in Hartford County and one of its three municipalities. The other two are East Hartford and West Hartford. Ansonia's name comes from English explorer John Anson who explored the area in 1764 and called it "Antonie." The first settlers to Ansonia were people from England who established a trading post there in 1692. They were followed by people from New Netherland who arrived in 1696. In 1814, Ansonia became part of the United States when it was organized as a township within Hartford County. The growth of the town accelerated during World War II because of the need for workers on Project Paperclip, an American effort to find new sources of aluminum ore. During that time, many buildings were built in what is now downtown Ansonia and much of today's commercial district was developed around those buildings. In 1968, Ansonia merged with neighboring WestHartford to form one municipality which continues to exist today as a separate entity with its own government and school system than that of either town twinned with it years earlier.Today’s economy relies heavily on tourism—partially due to beautiful outdoor scenery but also due to historic landmarks like Fairfield University’s main campus located just outside town limits—making this an attractive destination for both visitors and residents alike

The town was named after the story of King Arthur and his queen, Guinevere, who were exiled from England because of their adulterous affair. Famed architect Nicholas-Jacques Conte designed the first courthouse in Ansonia. In 1701, the town became a part of Hartford County. In 1814, Hartford County merged with New York to form the United States of America. The population of Ansonia increased rapidly due to waves of immigration during this time. When Hartford County dissolved in 1821, Ansonianians voted to secede from the United States and become an independent state called Connecticut. The community continued to grow until it achieved its current size in 1868 when it incorporated as a city under the name of Ansonia. Since its incorporation as a city, Ansonia has made significant strides in developing its economy and cultural heritage.Today, Ansonia is one of the most vibrant cities in Connecticut with a rich history that can be enjoyed today for all to enjoy!
