Ansonia, Connecticut is a small town in Hartford County, Connecticut. It was founded in 1636 by Captain John Anson and his wife Hannah. The town's first white settler was Ensign Samuel Morse.In 1851, the town approved the purchase of a claim on the mainland of Long Island from Nicholas Astor for $2,500. In 1854, Ansonia became the first municipality in Hartford County to issue its own currency-the "Ansonia Cents."The Town Clock was installed in 1895 and is still run by hand. In 1922, Ansonia adopted an ordinance establishing city rights to all land within its limits east of Groton Street including some now part of West Orange and East Orange townships; this led to the establishment of New Windsor as an independent city in 1928. On July 17th, 1904, Ansonia celebrated its 350th anniversary with a large parade that included floats depicting local history along with music and dance. On October 10th (the day before America's centennial), the town held another parade which featured floats portraying national history such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson along with music and dance. In 1907, Ansonia began issuing stamps honoring local figures such as Judge Joseph Story (USA), Mayor Abel Greenough (CT) & Drs Butterfield & Webster who helped open up new business opportunities for the community during their time as officials. The following year saw another prestigious honor bestowed upon our community when it was named one of only ten places nationwide recipient of The American Institute’s Award for Excellence – “outstanding achievement by an American community” In 1929-1930 both sides of Interstate 91 were built between I-95/US-8 southbound and I-84 northbound through Ansoni

The first settler in what is now Ansonia was John Putnam who arrived in 1639. In 1812 Samuel Morse located land for himself and others near present-day Ansonia along the river. Morse's land grant included an 8-acre lot on which he built his house and store. By 1818 there were 10 houses in the town with a population of 350 people. As time went on more settlers arrived including Nathaniel Smith in 1824 and Elijah Porter in 1830 A post office called Ansonia was established in 1794 by Amos Kendall as part of Windham Haven township. The name change to Ansonia when it became part of Norwich Township on March 14, 1800 (). On July 9, 1840, the town gained city status under the new form of government that had been created by Connecticut General Assembly Act No 742 (). The first mayor was Timothy Joicey In 1868–69 another group of capitalists removed all logs from Long Pond upstream to make way for their new flour mill which would produce $3 million worth of flour per year by 1870 The main industries have changed over time but some constants have remained such as agriculture with production going up until World War II then declining again due to mechanization; manufacturing providing jobs throughout most of this period; while small businesses have continued to thrive through online sales and various online marketing tools available today

The name Ansonia comes from Anglo Saxon Aunsone meaning "old home". The first settler in what became Ansonia was Nicholas Ansell who arrived in 1636 and set up a mill on the west bank of the Connecticut River. The town site was choice for its natural resources and its location midway between Hartford, Conn., and Worcester, Mass., which made it an early center for trade with eastern New England. In 1837, Lieut.-Governor John Stark founded Bridgeport as a separate town to serve as Gateway to Waterford County and Asbury Park Reserve Lands east of Ansonia on the other side of the river. In 1868, when Bridgeport became part of Hartford, there were only 6 residents in total living within walking distance of either city limits. By 1875, however, Bridgeport had grown so large that it began to annex adjacent towns including Ansonia and Westfield (now North Haven). Ansonia's population remained small until after World War II; during that time it grew slowly but steadily before reaching its current size over 50% since 1990. One factor contributing to this growth has been an increase in jobs available throughout southeastern Connecticut due to new industrial development along I-95 corridor northward from Hartford into New York City; alsoNotable businesses located here include Apple Inc.'s headquarters1and JBG Peet's law office2 which have both relocated several times since their establishment Today’s economy is based largely upon services such as health care, education and local government bureaucracies; these are supplemented by manufacturing interests that have moved away from downtown or along I-95 near where many high tech companies are located3 . Manufacturing employment peaked in 2000 but declined rapidly thereafter due primarily to global economic recession 4 ; although some small businesses remain active they do not generate enough jobs overall to offset declines elsewhere 5 Many residents continue to commute into Hartford or nearby cities for work because those areas offer better job prospects than outside rural areas
