Ansonia, CT is home to the nation's second oldest continuously operating ammunition store, established in 1845. Ammunition production began in Ansonia in 1857 and continued until 1903. The company was bought by Remington Arms in 1903 and remained a subsidiary of that company until it was purchased by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1912. At Winchester, ammunition production continued until 1978. In 1978, the company was sold to Parker Hannifin Corporation and continued as an armaments division of that company until it was spin-off from Parker Hannifin Corporation in 2001. At present, Winchester Ammo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Crosman Incorporated. The early history of ammunition manufacturing in Connecticut can be traced back to 1845 when Isaac Watts opened the first state-owned factory for making gunpowder and shot at Watertown (later Hartford). This facility would eventually become part of Weitzman Arsenal & Gunpowder Works which operated out of Norwich (now Watertown) until 1861 when it became part of Colt’s Factory at Springfield Armory where operations would continue until 1865 when they were transferred to the newly formed Ansonia Ammunition Manufacturing Company Limited. The manufacture of artillery munitions begins with shot made from stone taken from the cliffs above Enfield on Long Island Sound; these projectiles were used against fortifications near New York City during the American Revolution. After independence was gained, cannonballs were still created using this method but soon became necessary for other arms such as infantry muskets and artillery guns due to technological advances including breechloading firearms which allowed balls to be fired multiple times without reloading

Ansonia is a town in Connecticut, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ansonia–Norwalk–Bridgeport agglomeration, which has a population of 8,826. The town is located on the banks of the Thames River and its namesake river, which forms its border to Norwalk to the south and Bridgeport to the north. The first permanent settler in what became Ansonia was Aaron Burr from New York City in 1784. He built a sawmill on what is now Bridgeport-Ansonia Road and named his settlement Burrstown after himself and his father. In 1825, Burr laid out a Northwestern Toll Road connecting Hartford with New York City; this road became known as the Turnpike (now Interstate 95). In 1835, George Washington Carver founded Carver & Co., merchants that imported goods from Europe and then sold them locally at prices lower than those charged by wholesalers. This business started as an effort to improve local economic conditions by providing local employment opportunities for people who had nothing else to do. By 1840, Carver's company had become one of America's leading manufacturers of agricultural Equipment including canalside land irrigation systems not available until later in that century

Ansonia, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 30,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Hartford–Bridgeport metropolitan area. The name Ansonia comes from "an old English battle-field" and means "old fort." The first settler in the area was John Atwater who arrived in 1736. In 1814, General Israel Putnam sold the land that now Ansonia to Colonel Timothy Safford for $1,000. The first store opened in 1827 and it was called Safford's Store until 1892 when it became Dyer's grocery store. Dyer operated it until 1929 when it was closed by its owner Hapgood Brothers Incorporated because of low sales and fire insurance rates. In 1933, Ansonia incorporated as a town under the name of Ansonia-Naugatuck with a population of 10 people. The current mayor is Democrat Danbury Mayor Danbury Ives while Town Clerk is Republican Donna Lupkin
