Windsor is a small town in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The population was 593 at the 2010 census and 605 at the 2016 census. It is part of the Pueblo–La Plata Metropolitan Statistical Area. Windsor is located on U.S. Route 66 near the confluence of the Green River and Arkansas Rivers. The first permanent settler in what became Windsor was Michael D’Angelo, who arrived in 1865 from Vermont. In 1867, he married Jennie Clements and they began to farm land around their home on Main Street. By 1881, they had built a one-room schoolhouse on North Second Street which served as a community center until it was replaced by modern facilities in 1915. In 1912, when the Pikes Peak Railroad reached Windsor through what is now southeast corner of town, local merchants subscriptions funded its construction from tracks that ran parallel to Main Street east to west (now known as Parker Road). A train depot was built west of present day Third Street and service began on May 1, 1912; this depot served as an important stop for travelers coming downriver fording the Green River before continuing their journey upriver along US 66 to Cheyenne or other towns inland. In 1916, when Denverite Harry Wirth purchased 320 acres (128 ha) northeast of town along Parker Road for $10 per acre ($6/ha), he decided to make Windsor his primary business center and renamed it "Wirth's Corners." Development proceeded slowly until World War II when demand increased due to increasing production at munitions plants in nearby Glendale and Westminster; however, post-war civilian growth stalled because there were no new jobs available close by postwar standards within commuting distance (30 miles for city residents compared with 50 miles for rural residents). The end result was that Windsor experienced rapid annexation by neighboring Pueblo during the 1950s while also losing much of its commercial significance as more people moved into newer suburbs outside of town limits over that decade or so; nevertheless, many residents remain incisive about how their community has changed since then (e.g., several businesses still sell newspapers door-to-door). Partially because of its unique history – including being one of only two communities in Colorado Springs with an independently operated water system – Windsor has been designated by Centennial School District officials as a "Center City" location for2020 celebrations commemorating 100 years since statehood within Colorado Springs Metro area including all jurisdiction surrounding downtown core areas extending northward up I-25 beyond Academy Boulevard into Greenwood Village south past Wadsworth Avenue onto South Lamar Boulevard into Trinidad which latter municipality surrounds both downtown cores having similar boundaries - all under one roof!

Windsor is a town in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,818 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. The first permanent settlers arrived in 1876 and named their new community Windsor after the castle in England where they were staying on their way to establish a rancho (a land grant) in nearby Pueblo. The town changed its name to Windsor in 1907 when it became part of the newly formed Jefferson County. As part of the Gold Rush of 1849-50, many men headed for what is now Colorado Territory looking for rich mineral rights and gold nuggets as well as passage through Mexican territory on their way to California. These men founded towns along what would become Routt and Moffat Counties including Windsor with several thousand people by 1860 according to one source. On July 25, 1861, Ulysses S. Grant ordered General Lew Wallace's army into Denver City limits south of present day Burlington after learning that Major James Hutton had approached Grant about creating an independent state within the Union if war should break out with Mexico over slavery.. On August 12th 6 miles east of present day Windsor a fence was built around what would later become known as Massacre Valley which served as Wallaces' encampment during his siege of Fort Lyon which began on November 16th and ended December 1st 1861.. A group led by Captain John D Hutton decided not to fight for Grant but rather head northeast towards Trinidad instead where they discovered gold deposits on November 19th 1861 nearpresent day Trinidad National Wildlife Refuge .
