That same year, Mr./Mrs./Mr., George Eakin donated land for two churches – First Presbyterian Church (now Stonington United Methodist) and Second Presbyterian Church (now Holy Cross Catholic Parish). Windsor is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 716 at the 2010 census. Windsor was named after George Washington and his family moved there from Virginia in 1855. The first post office in Windsor opened on December 9, 1875. The town became a county seat of Weld County on January 1, 1907. In 1916, the U.S. Bureau of Mines (BOM) constructed an underground mine called the Flamingo that produced coal for the American Bridge Company (ABC). ABC used part of the coal to produce cash registers and other equipment for its stores in downtown Windsor and elsewhere in the community during World War I. The mine closed in 1921 because of low production rates coupled with increased competition from other mines and mills in nearby towns such as Longmont and Lafayette. The remaining coal reserves at the Flamingo Mine were reopened by Aconcagua Coal Company in 1974 as part of a local mining boom following discovery of new oil and gas deposits nearby. This led to increased production at the mine until it ceased operations in 1990 due to environmental problems caused by heavy use of explosives within reach of schools and residences near the site of operation. On October 16, 2009, Windsor-area residents voted 3-2 to annex into Aspen Park Township due to concerns over high taxes levied by Aspen Park Township against smaller municipalities like Windsor which had not annexed into Aspen Park Township since 2000 when it was created as a result of consolidation between several unincorporated communities located along Interstate 25 northbound from Aspen Park Village including Merrillville, Greenwood Village, Golden Hill Villages & Pueblo Rancho Heights., Nederland Hills & Belleview Manor., Belmar & Northumberland Twp., Eldorado Springs & Southridge Lakeshore.) After years of negotiations with neighboring cities – most notably Longmont – annexation into Aspen Park Township finally happened on November 2 after citizens’ protests had forced city officials to back down twice earlier this year over taxes they say are unconstitutional under state law as well as zoning issues that have prevented many businesses from locating within township boundaries proper including multiple golf courses operated by private developers adjacent to township limits) Withdrawal or exemption from filing requirements for townships having less than 6500 full-time residents does not apply; all townships must file updated status reports every two years) Aspen Park Township covers an area containing an estimated 640 acres (248 hectares), making it one-third larger than current municipal boundaries for both size and landmass—making it one possible destination for those seeking more comprehensive township services should their municipality experience growth limitations or desires beyond these measures surface
