In 1922–23 (the same year that fusion took place between Lander & Gunnison Schools), local businessmen sponsored a drive to build a new high school on what is now Main Street; construction began shortly thereafter and finished in 1923-24 under leadership of Mrs. Jane Slaughter (founder of Slaughters Jewelry). That same year saw also the arrival of mail service through Stagecoach Lines from Denver; this allowed for increased commerce withintown as well as easy access to goods from other parts of Weld County long before automobiles arrived here later that decade! In 1951-52 when Weld County formed its own government under statehood laws (it did not become part of Colorado until 1912), Windsor lost much economic diversity but retained many social activities including dances around Christmas time sponsored by First Presbyterian Church which still occur today! In recent years there has been significant redevelopment taking place with examples include an indoor basketball arena built on land formerly occupied by a cattle market/processing plant complex known as “The Farm” adjacent to High School; retail development including several large grocery stores adjacent to old industrial buildings along Main Street; as well as numerous single family homes being replaced or renovated with newer designs throughout downtown etc.; while steady population growth continues unabated!
