Wheat Ridge, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 4,031 at the 2010 census. Wheat Ridge is located on the east side of the Pikes Peak Mountains and bordered by Aspen to the south and Thornton to the north. It has a humid continental climate (Köppen Climate Classification "Dfb"), meaning that summers are hot but not too warm and winters are cold but not very (−18 °C or 0 °F) intense. The first settlers in Wheat Ridge were John Brown and his family who came from England in 1855. The original home of Brown's family was a log cabin built near what is now downtown Wheat Ridge. In 1865, General James Hays discovered coal seams near what is now Wheat Ridge and decided to establish an oil drilling camp here for $1 per day payable in gold coins. The first wells were drilled here by February 1866, making this one of the earliest sites in Weld County to be developed as an oil center. The early years of oil production at nearby Aspen helped stimulate growth around Wheat Ridge which began to boom thanks to a strong economy based on tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and other businesses unrelated to energy production. Unfortunately for Wheat Ridge as well as neighboring townships during this time period some wells went dry while others yielded disappointing results because of difficult access to water supplies necessary for fracking operations at that time; however these difficulties would eventually all be overcome with technological advances over time! Through it all though there remained a strong sense of community spirit among many residents who strived together for mutual success despite seemingly insurmountable odds – something that continues today even as Oil prices have plummeted throughout most recent decade! Today, wheat ridge remains one ofnature’s most vibrant communities where people come together every day to enjoy their local environment while also working towards fulfilling their civic responsibilities through its various organizations like “The Rotary Club” or “American Legion” etcetera
