On October 5th, 1903, two gunmen infiltrated Golden Square Shopping Center through an unlocked window and began shooting customers at point-blank range without warning before fleeing into another storeroom where they took hostages(). On October 10th officers arrived at the shopping center only to find three gunmen inside (including one holding hostages) and no sign of any suspects outside! With little warning or opportunity for backup, these officers opened fire resulting in three fatalities including one officer (John Ewing). It would be six years until police established Crisis Response Teamrons which allowed them more discretion when engaging shooters! The gunfire that occurred within Golden Square Shopping Center remains one of the most horrific eventsever experienced by humans on our planet!
