In 1876, Rifleman George P. Mann from Westminster, Colorado became the first man to win a rifle match at the Denver Rifle and Pistol Club. At that time, rifle stocks were still made of animal skin and hair. The club offered a $5 prize for the best stock in a rifle match. In 1886, Rifleman James A. Armstrong became the first person to win a rifle match with an American-made breechloading Springfield riflescope. In 1889, Rifleman Lewis Wesson won a rifle match with an American-made Winchester model 1892 rifle scope. In 1896, Rifleman John Lunsford became the first person to win a rifle match using modern recoil reduction techniques on an American-made Winchester Model 1895 carbine. From 1899 through 1903, Riflemen Edward O’Neill and Edwin Bowers won consecutive rifle matches using Winchester Model 1897 scopes with zero adjustments instead of traditional windage and elevation sights (this was also done without firing any rounds). The introduction of air guns in 1912 caused the abandonment of breechloading riflescopes as all types of firearms began incorporating breechloaders by that point in time

The Westminster Rifle and Pistol Club is a rifle and pistol club located in Westminster, Colorado. The original guns were made by the American Arms Company of Newton, Massachusetts in 1876.

Westminster is a town in San Juan County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo metropolitan area. Westminster was founded in 1882 and named for the then-newly created parish of Westminster in London, England. The community of Westminster grew rapidly after its incorporation as a municipality in 1907. By 1920, it had over 1,500 residents and was home to two schools: Holy Cross School and Westminster High School. In addition to its citizens' elected officials (mayors, trustees), Westminster also had an appointed school board that included five teachers from neighboring municipalities. In 1938, the first post office opened in town with mail service conducted by horseback riders from San Juan County's two other towns: La Junta and Englewood. When Interstate 25 crossed the small town center on what is now Fourth Street NW near Pine Street NW (the current day location of Main Street NW), business began to decline as people drove further out into neighboring counties for work or shopping opportunities. Businesses within easy reach of I-25 such as grocery stores and convenience stores became popular among those who could afford them while others closed down due to lack of customers or competition from newer businesses opening up around I-25's then-intersection with Westword Boulevard NE/southwest corner withMain Street NW (now 4th Street NW). By 1970, only one store remained open in downtown while most businesses either closed or moved away during this time period because they were not able to compete against larger chains that had taken over throughout much of rural Colorado during this same time period including Safeway Stores Inc., Kroger Co., Supervalu Stores Inc., Home Depot & Lowe's Companies Inc., Tyson Foods Inc., etc.. In response to this growing shift towards large metropolitan areas outside Pueblo County along I-25 such as Denver and Boulder which were experiencing explosive growth due to new industries like retailing, real estate development, commuting options etcetera; local leaders decided it would be more beneficial for their community if they merged with some other nearby municipality – likely La Junta – creating what would eventually become known as the "Pueblo Metropolitan Area." This decision by local officials resulted in increased funding available for municipal services which helped increase property values within the new consolidated municipality thereby stimulating economic growth within the overall combined township/municipality including downtown westword and eastern side main Streets between Third Avenue Northeast/Northwest corner Broadway streets - now Fifth Avenue NE - McKinley Road eastward until intersecting Rural Road just north of 6th Avenue SW - renamed Winchester Drive following Dean Acheson's purchase of adjoining land adjacent thereto back when he served as Mayor pro tempore concurrent with incumbent John Hickenlooper - prior thereto Acheson had relinquished all ownership thereof subsequent thereto never having resumed any legal title thereto although portions thereof have since been annexed by said cityseeking annexation therein pursuant to present ordinance thereunder despite protestations hereinfrom by certain citizens purportedly vested exclusive rights therein under contract aforesaid dated October 15th 1966 between certain individuals certain named hereinwith entitled collectively "Church Fathers" purported successors thereto notwithstanding) resulting ultimatelyin consolidation being effected without any public hearing whatsoever although many residents objecting thereto took appeals through city attorney who refused requests therefor notwithstanding; eventuating ultimatelyin establishment hereof notwithstanding although not without costs both financial and emotional arising from said process). Westminster has experienced various changes throughout its history including a significant influx of Mexicans during Prohibition era which led to a decrease in population; loss of manufacturing jobs during 1980s recession resultant in high unemployment rates among white working class populaceparticularly youth; increasing residential development leading to increased traffic congestion on main street; rise in prices associated with housing market crash followed by rise again following recent expansions announced by City Council related largelyto proposed annexation plans currently pending before zoning Appeals Board related primarilyto rezoning proposal presently before Board pertaining primarilyto platting design expansion existing on lot immediately southeast across First Avenue Northeast from Main StreetNW opposite Sheridan Square) leading ultimatelyto rejection thereof amidst objections voiced principallyby several homeowners residing on East Side Lot adjoining aforementioned square) particularlydue to possible adverse impact upon character & appearance thereof Sometime later after lengthy hearing process consisting predominantlyof questions asked by representativesfrom opposing parties involved plus review testimony providedby architects representing respective opponentsboth before zoning Appeals Board AND City Council culminatingin eventual recommendation that no annexation proposal be approved thereby preservingapproximately 2 blocks contiguous core historic district comprising approximately 98%+ acreage located southwesterly boundary line between said square & lots aforementioned containing residences dating backTo early 1800s wagons drawn thorny woodchipsStatic electricity generating facility begun operations late 1990s providing power adequate for approximately 350 homes required intermittently overnight beginning mid2005

The history of Westminster, Colorado is long and varied. The town was founded in 1872 by farmers who arrived from England on the steamboat "Colorado". At its peak, the town had a population of around 1,500 people. However, the town's growth slowed after World War I and during the 1920s it experienced a small-scale migration of Englishmen to Denver. In the 1940s and 50s, however, Westminster saw an influx of Germans and Irish immigrants. In recent years, there has been a rise in Hispanic residents as well. In 1951, Westminster became part of Colorado Springs metropolitan area. The population grew rapidly in these years and by 1990 it had reached nearly 20,000 people. Continuing economic growth led to increased development in downtown Westminster and other nearby areas; in 2000 the city had over 40 businesses operating within its limits. Today, Westminster is one of the most vibrant communities in southern Colorado Springs. Westminster's founding story can be traced back to 1872 when farmers arrived on board the "Colorado" from England with hopes of finding new land to farm after coming off their shipwrecked voyage across North America. They were met with hostility from local Native American groups who claimed this land as their own – hostilities that would continue for many years to come. Ultimately, two men – George Stephenson (the builder of London's Metropolitan Railway) and Augustus Earle Holmes (a wealthy entrepreneur) purchased 2/3rds of a mile (1 km) wide strip along what is now Interstate 25 between Fremont Street eastward and Canon City Road westward for $2 per acre ($27 per hectare). At first they named their purchase "Newtown", but later changed it to "Westminster" because they felt that this name would be more popular among English-speaking neighbours than "Newtown." The town's early days were difficult; although it did enjoy some prosperity due to burgeoning agriculture activity surrounding it, development was slow due largely to lack of infrastructure such as roads or water resources at that time – something that has since become increasingly common throughout Southern Colorado Springs over the past several decades! Nevertheless, through hard work and determination local developers managed to build some modest homes starting around 1870 while also creating rudimentary schools (later renamed Centennial School District #4), churches (First Presbyterian Church), fireplaces (Westminster Methodist Episcopal Church), wagon roads (Canon City Road) as well as several business ventures including groceries store fronts which helpedurbain commerce until annexation into neighboring Pueblo in 1905 brought about an increase in traffic which caused problems for both towns’ leaders; together they decided against annexing again given their respective populations’ capacity for dealing with such congestion without overwhelming each other! It wasn't until 1907 when Pueblo annexed Westminster allowing for even more population growth which soon ledto another attempt at annexing New Town into Pueblo but this time successfully resulting in establishment of Westminster Police Department! This success eventually leadto further growth which saw additional businesses established outside OFP&G Limits while also increasing transportation options available within New Town making post office service possible once again! Finally upon annexation into Pueblo by Mancos County on October 15th 1915 everything finally came together within what we know today as Westmount Park - essentially giving us our current form! With continued community investment by citizens & entrepreneurs alike things are looking up once again...albeit slowly

Westminster was founded in 1876 as a small town in Weld County, Colorado. It soon became one of the most important towns in the area due to its location on the edge of a gold rush.
