The first people to live in what is now Westminster were the Anasazi who built their villages around Pueblo Bonito and Pueblo San Felipe about 10,000 years ago. The Moapa Hahazana also populated this area for some time before moving east to Chama River County about 1820. A group of Mormon pioneers named Weber came through this area on their way to Utah in 1847. They founded a ranch north of present day Westminster while they were still in California. At that time the only village near where Westminster now stands was called Cache Valley which lay within present day Northglenn Township west of I-25 and south of state Highway 85 (now known as Keystone Boulevard). When they arrived it consisted of around seventy people with one store and two trading posts along Cache Creek. By 1870 there were over one hundred people living here including twenty families established by Peter Ketchum when he bought 640 acres from the Cheyenne Indians near today's Golden Hill neighborhood south of I-25 just east of present day Keystone Boulevard (the current site of downtown Denver). In 1875 John Wesley Powell discovered Devils Gulch while exploring nearby Englewood Canyon and named it after his friend Ulysses S Grant who had been Commander general at Fort Laramie during that battle which helped win independence for Wyoming from Mexico

Westminster is a town in Garfield County, Colorado, United States. It was founded in 1876 by the merger of two smaller settlements, Centennial and Westminster. The population was 2,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Westminster" comes from the center of town where three churches used to meet: St. John's Episcopal Church on Downing Street; First Presbyterian on Locust Street; and Christ Church on Elm Street. In 1876, those three congregations amalgamated to become one church called Westminster Presbyterian (later Westminster Congregational). The first post office in Westminster opened in 1881. In 1916, when Colorado became an all-male state, Westminister closed its doors for women and men who wished to keep their individual shops open separate from one another. Women reopening the stores soon after helped bring about a surge in business as residents began importing more goods than they could produce themselves. In 1922, Congress passed the National Defense Act which provided for American soldiers stationed overseas to be paid with military pay rather than receive money they would have had to forfeit if they returned home without service medals or other recognition from their unit or battalion commanders or higher officials!
