Westminster is a small town in the U.S. state of Colorado, located about 25 miles south of Denver on Interstate 25 and adjacent to the Rocky Mountains. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of Fort Collins-Aurora, which had a population of 2,951 in 2016. The first permanent settler in Westminster was George Wickersham, who arrived in 1876. Wickersham homesteaded land near present day Main Street and Cherry Creek Boulevard. A post office called Westminster was established in 1879, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first schoolhouse in Westminster was built around 1840 by John Gunnison; it burned down in 1886 and never reopened. A new school building was constructed on Park Drive east of Cherry Creek Boulevard around 1902 by Mrs. Denton Clements; it served as both a primary and secondary school until 1963 when Fort Collins began offering high school education within its city limits instead of through Westminster School Districts. In 1984, the district changed its name to Fort Collins Education District (FCED). In 1912–13, local business man Harry Weiser founded Weiser Brewery; it remains one ofFort Collins' most popular businesses today with more than 350 employees statewide including 15 at our brewery campus on North Gaylord Avenue just outside town center. In 1928–29, Drury Lane Theatre opened as an art deco movie palace complete with an 8-car garage for parking his private carriages inside while he screened films outdoors on long balconies over Cherry Creek Boulevard across from what is now Hart Hall Gymnasium at Westminster College; this theater closed its doors after only two seasons due to increasing competition from other theaters within Fort Collins or Aurora proper.— fortcollinsdailynews

Westminster is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1887 by 100 pioneers who named their new settlement "Weld" after nearby Weld County, Colorado. The name has been used since then for any number of other places in the area. The townsite was selected for its strategic location and its easy access to bothDenver and Grand Junction. By 1890, Westminster had a post office, two churches (one Congregational and one Methodist), a school (grades K-12), a grocery store, and three frame homes. In 1916, the community had four hotels: The Continental Inn; The Palace Motel; Western Hotel; and The Denver Club House. In those days railroads were key to commerce in this remote corner of Weld County. As early as 1913 the Westminster Chamber of Commerce had lobbied for an interurban railway to be built through Westminster from Grand Junction to Denver. In 1951 Union Pacific Railroad donated land east of Westminster along its mainline between Cheyenne and Greeley so that an existing freight yard could be enlarged into a station with passenger service. Amtrak began operations out of Laramie Depot in 1984 using this lot as their original terminus until 2001 when they moved westward across I-25 to Yardly Depot south of Fort Collins
Westminster was founded in 1876 as the first incorporated town in Colorado. The town was named for Prince of Wales, who had been visiting the area at the time. The settlement grew quickly and soon became a major center for mining, agriculture, and trade. In 1916, Westminster incorporation created a county within the state of Colorado. The county rapidly expanding and by 1920 had a population of over 100,000 people. In 1952, Westminster merged with neighboring Asotin to form Asotin-Westminster County.
