There have been many rifles and shotguns used in Thornton, Colorado. The first was a bye the Indians rifle that was used by the Mission Indians in 1876. In 1886, George W. Dillon and Company began making rifles in Thornton. They produced some of the most famous rifles in history such as the Winchester Model 1892 and lever-action Remington 870. These guns were so successful that they became known as "Dillon's Devils". The first stock company to come to Thornton from across the United States was Stockton & Trumbull Arms Company in 1904.That company made stocks for Winchester, Colt and other brands of firearms. It is interesting to note that these companies were all founded within a few years of each other in what is now Thornton (then Trumbull County). In 1916, John Crouch started production at his new gun factory called Crouch Guns on Union Boulevard south of town. This factory produced high quality pistols and shotguns including models such as the 1911A1 Springfield Armory Pistol and 12 gauge shotgun model 311C3A1 which is still considered an industry standard today!

The area now known as Thornton was settled by European settlers in 1876 when they arrived from Illinois via wagon train. A post office was established in Thornton on December 12, 1876. The first store in Thornton was a mercantile business operated by George Wills and his brother Julius Wills. The brothers opened a general store on Main Street which serveduntil 1907 when it became a hardware store. In 1908, John Fenton purchased the store from the Wills brothers and continued to operate it until his death in 1968. The Fenton familyowned and operated the hardware store until 1983 when it went out of business due to high competition from larger stores within the community center district of Thornton downtown redevelopment project In 1935, Jens Jensen started an ice cream parlor called Jensen's Ice Cream which he operated for 49 years before selling it to Morrie Naiman in 1984 In 1984, Naiman turned over management ofthe shop to his son Chadwick Naiman who ran it successfully until its closure in 2006 after serving more than 25 years as Manager In 2007, Chadwick Naiman reopened the shop under new ownership with plans to reopen every week during summertime offering unique flavors like snow peas with bacon or butternut squash soup with lobster .

Today, Thornton is home to several large businesses including Hewlett-Packard Company and Intel Corporation.
