In 1984-85 an all-female wrestling team named Superstars () played their first match against boys' teams at Valley View High School (); they eventually folded after two seasons due to lack of sponsorship or interest from other schools. One notable event which happened during this time period took place when Linda McMahon (), wife of UPN owner Vince McMahon (), came to town for her husband's inauguration as Governor of Colorado (); she stayed at Indian Hills Resort & Spa for three days before returning home

The townsite was laid out by George Catlin in 1875 and named for Admiral James Stockton, who had fought against Mexican forces in California during the Mexico-American War. The first post office opened in Superior on July 5, 1876. In 1902, Catlin donated land to the town for a park and school district; it became known as Catlin Park. In 1916, Superior High School moved from east of Main Street to its present location on State Avenue south of US Highway 6. In 1924, Arapaho County created what is now Superior Township; Superior became a part of that township on January 1, 1925. In 1935, the US Postal Service started delivering mail through Superior; it continued to do so until 1978. In 1976–77, the city of Westminster built a new library on State Avenue south of US Highway 6 (now called I-25) which replaced an old building which had been condemned as obsolete after being damaged by fire several times.
