Superior, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains located about an hour and a half west of Denver. The population was 6,463 at the 2010 census. Superior is home to several ski resorts, including Heavenly Ski Resort and Aspen Skiing & Snowboarding Resort. It also has a number of businesses, including two banks, four churches and three schools. The town was founded in 1876 by men who were looking for a place to homestead after leaving the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican-American War. They named their settlement Superior because it had the higher ground. The first post office was established in 1877. In 1912, Superior added an electric chicken coop to its lineup of features when it installed wires to power generators that became operational that year. In 1924, Superior bought land from George Custer for $5 per acre which made it one of the first towns in Colorado to do so. At that time, most towns located near mountains acquired land through purchase or donation from ranchers or other residents as part of efforts to increase access to resources available close by. In 1928, Superior annexed nearby Creston which had been abandoned by its previous occupants due to financial difficulties caused by rapid population growth elsewhere in Central Colorado at the time. On July 1st, 1959, Superiors incorporation as a Village occurred with business beginning on October 1st with only 7 residents registered ballots being cast totaling just over 2% of voting strength but despite this low turnout rate more than doubling property values within 3 years averaging over $15 per square foot sold with noumbing changes taking place until 1990 when annexation into Denver increased real estate prices even further averaging over $225 per square foot today making Superior one of most expensive places in Colorado if not America!

Superior is a census-designated place in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The population was 6,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pueblo County, Colorado, and has an area of 362 square miles (959 km²). The first people to live on what is now Superior came from eastern New Mexico about 12,000 years ago. They were hunter-gatherers and traded with other tribes along the lower Rio Grande. The Ancestral Puebloan people built their first villages on high ridges near present-day Durango about 10,000 years ago. The first European settlers in what is now Superior arrived in 1864 when wagon train developer William Humboldt sold land including present-day Superior to prospectors from Nevada. A post office was established at Superior in 1867, and by 1870 there were over 100 residents living there. By 1880, there were 300 residents and 50 businesses. In 1886 gold was discovered at Gold Hill Creek; this led to a rush of miners to the area and helped make Superior one of the most heavily populated areas in Colorado. During World War II several companies organized local production for war materials such as munitions and aviation gasoline. Many employees worked remote sites away from town due to wartime shortages; however, many locals fought in combat during World War II as soldiers or airmen." In 1957 Superior became a city when it amalgamated with nearby Durango; it had a population of 476 residents at its peak." In 1984 growth slowed as energy prices stabilized; however, by 2002 there were still 1,500 residents living in downtown Golden City." In 2002–2004 word spread that Superior's water crisis could triple by 2007 if action wasn't taken; on July 14th Mayor Tom Smith announced that city crews would be working 24/7 to replace all 7 water main lines – saving customers $1 million." On November 8th 2006 it was announced that 2 new pipelines would run directly under Main Street providing more than double what was originally planned for - averting any potential water supply crisis.; this brought much acclaim from locals who saw it as another sign that things were starting to change for the better." Today Superior continues to grow with 1 restaurant opening every day within walking distance of each other Downtown & up North
On July 1, 1876, Superior was founded as the first town in what is now Weld County, Colorado. The area that would become Superior had been under Spanish control for centuries and was not widely known outside of the region. In 1876, a group of businessmen pooled their money to purchase land east of the Continental Divide and founded Superior City. That same year, the first post office was established in Superior. The city quickly grew and by 1890 had a population of over 500 residents. In 1916, a fire destroyed most of the downtown business district within minutes and left many people homeless. Despite this setback, Superior continued to grow and by 1920 had an estimated population of 2,000 people. On October 2nd of that year, the Colorado General Assembly passed House Bill No. 327 which created supervisor positions in each township in order to improve municipal government efficiency and provide more resources to townships in need. This law also provided for town meetings which would be used to make decisions about local issues such as budgeting or zoning changes. In 1955, progress was made towards developing a new freeway through town which would eventually connect Denver with Interstate 25 outside of town. However, due to strong opposition from citizens who felt their homes were being taken away for an overly large project that did not benefit them materially whatsoever, it wasn’t until 1978 when votersapproved Measure V – which limited development along I-25 between Peak Mesa Boulevard and Windsor Avenue – paving the way for future growth within town limits again!
