In 1865, Alexander Graham Bell developed a binocular lens that improved their performance. By the late 1800s, binoculars had become an essential tool for farmers and hunters during hunting expeditions. By the early 1900s, binocular manufacturers had produced high-quality models for general use and military purposes. At about this time, a new type of housing was designed to protect the lenses from dust and other contaminants. In 1928, The Oskar Schindler Company began marketing binoculars through mail order catalogues. In 1955, The Boston Globe began producing quality binocular products under its own name after buying rival company HirschfeldOptics Corporation. During World War II, some American servicemen used binoculars to observe German troops in action on the battlefield while others used them to track down Allied submarines off the coast of Newfoundland. Binocular production resumed following the war but declined thereafter because of technological advances such as video cameras and laser rangefinders

Superior, Colorado is a town located in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Intermountain West region. The name Superior comes from the Kiowa and Comanche word "xoropi" meaning "lady." The first settler in this area was Wm. Hays who arrived in 1875 and named his land for his wife's aunt (the daughter of a white man). In 1886, Gideon Welles came to this area and founded Wellsville which became the seat of Arapaho County. In 1912, Smedley Butler built a sawmill on Clear Creek west of what is now Superior. This mill became the largest in the area and produced lumber until it closed in 1930. Today there are several small mills operating around Superior that produce various materials including paper, cement and stainless steel products. In 1924, Roy Speer opened a general store in what is now downtown Superior. This store served as a community hub for many years before it closed its doors in 2006; however its memory lives on through several local businesses that still sell items from Roy's shop today such as Purebred BBQ famez!

Superior was founded in 1876 by a group of pioneers led by Capt. John Wesley Smith. The town was named for the highest mountain in Colorado, Superior Peak. The town quickly grew and became an important center for mining and ranching during the early years of the Colorado Gold Rush. In 1912, Superior incorporated as a city and began to develop into a major metropolis in the state. Today, Superior is an important commercial and cultural center located near the intersection of I-25 and U.S.-40. The city has rich history that includes significant contributions to both Colorado society and American culture. The early days of Superior were difficult for the townspeople. They had to contend with rugged terrain, bad weather, Native Americans who harassed them, and hostile elements within their own community. However, these challenges eventually paid off as Superior quickly emerged as one of the most successful small towns in Colorado during its early years. By 1876, Superior had become an important post on the western frontier where people gathered to gamble, trade goods, worship God, make treaties with Native Americans, or just have some fun. In 1912, when Superior merged with nearby Pueblo to form what is now part of Denver County,[1] it continued to grow rapidly due to its location within easy access to gold seekers from all over America who flocked to fledglingColorado Territory.[2] By 1914, there were more than 2200 residents living in three separate neighborhoods: North Central (now Littleton), East Central (now Thornton), and South Western (now Commerce).[3] Many citizens who lived in these areas also worked at various mines or ranchos that operated outside of town limits; this combined with easy access to transportation made life very comfortable for those residing hereabouts during what is known as "the Golden Age" of Colorado Mining.[4] Although many aspects of today's superior economy were developed while residents were still living within their homes – including heavy reliance on agriculture – much progress was made during this time period thanks largely to two men: Captain John Wesley Smith Sr., owner/operator of nearby Marysville Mines #2;[5][6][7][8][9][10] AND Captian George Haggerty Sr., co-founder/ operator/ manager at nearby Majestic Mines #3 which has been cited as being one of the first open-pit silver mines in America.[11] settlement along Uinta Creek rapid increased from around 10 individuals per square mile in 1870[12] TO 400 individuals per square mile by 1915,[13][14][/15][/16]. This growth can be partially attributedto superior marketing abilities displayed by City Administrator James Swayne throughout his tenure from 1916 until his death four years later; he helped popularize downtown shopping DISTRICT through prominent displays such as creating "a model suburban street grid".[17][18],[19],[20][/21]; furthermore he helped attract other businesses such as theaters,, banks,,and restaurants which gave riseto several high-end districts including Sixth Street Mall,[22], State & Union District,[23],[24], North Park District,[25],[26], Roosevelt Boulevard Corridor district,[27],[28]'s ,and south side business district etcetera.[29]- [30]'s . In 1865, the United States acquired what would become Superior, Colorado from Mexico. The area had been part of the Mexican population for many decades and was sparsely populated. The U.S. government decided to make it a new territory, and granted it to the people of Colorado in 1876. The land consisted mostly of desert but also included some hills and valleys that would be important in future development. The first settlers arrived in Superior in 1877, and quickly developed the area around town. They built homes and businesses, using whatever they could find or borrow money from neighbors. Over time, they planted crops and made their way into nearby towns such as editonville and Golden Gate City to get work or trade goods with those communities. The early residents were very active in community affairs, playing an important role in developing both townspeople and the region around them. They were also instrumental in helping to create some of the earliest roads and trails within this area- including the John Wesley Powell Interurban Railway which connected Denver with Boulder on its way up Mount Evans
