Superior is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It is located on the Uncompahgre River, about northeast of Fort Collins and east of Greeley. The first settler in Superior was John McDowell in 1876. McDowell was attracted to the view from his property of the high mountains to the south and east, as well as its potential for agriculture. A post office was established at Superior in 1879, and by 1886 it had reached a population of 100 residents. By 1900, however, this number had dwindled to just 12 residents due to declines in agricultural production and an increase in logging and ranching activity. In 1902–1903 Denton Hoadley developed a system for delivering water supplies from springs near Greeley via pipeline to settlements along the Uncompahgre River valley. This new approach allowed large areas of northwestern Weld County (including Superior) to become self-sufficient with their own water supply without relying on outside assistance or purchases from farmers downstream. In 1907 Elisha Stevens opened what would become one of America's first supermarkets when he erected a store on land adjacent to his farmstead on Ute Creek Road between Canon City Road and Anaconda Creek Drive – now part of US Highway 25 Business (US 25B). During World War I there were significant efforts made by both local citizens and Denver-based businesses to support war effort through donations, sales volume or even manufacturing capabilities; these endeavors included munitions plants built by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company on Main Street southeast of town; Ford Motor Company's Willowbrook factory north-west of town; Boeing's Roybal plant near Canon City; General Electric's White Sands plant northwest corner Anaconda Creek Drive/Canon City Road; Carbide Corporation's Blue Mesa facility southwest corner Anaconda Creek Drive/Canon City Road – all used for aircraft production during that conflict alone After World War II many businesses closed down or relocated within Central Colorado due various economic changes including suburbanization throughout most Western Colorado which led many people westward looking for opportunities rather than stay put amid struggling rural economies . However some Oldtimers such as John McDowell who felt they could not move away continue growing crops into more recent decades until finally losing touch with society completely

It is also host to many events each year such as the Gold Rush Days Celebration or Western Fair Days which bring thousands of people together for fun activities such as rodeo shows or carnival games!
In 1876, Superior was the first post office in Colorado. The town, located about 25 miles northeast of Denver, grew up around a small depot and steamboat landing on the Arkansas River. In 1881, the first school was built in Superior. A year later, a store and hotel were opened. By 1886, Superior had a population of about 100 people. In 1898, the railroad arrived in Superior and the town began to grow rapidly. By 1900, there were over 500 people living in Superior. By 1910, Superior had a population of 1,500 people and boasted three businesses: a grocery store; a bank; and an insurance company. The town also boasted two churches: one Protestant and one Catholic. In 1912, fire destroyed most of the buildings in the town center but not before providing impetus for growth as new businesses started up quickly to replace those lost in the firestorm. In 1916, after World War I ended, many Americans turned their attention to Colorado Springs as they prepared for war efforts abroad. This move led to increased business activity in Superior because many travelers bypassed Denver en route to Colorado Springs or else stopped there for supplies before continuing on their journey southward. As more businesses came online andowntown streets became more congested than ever before (due largely to continued development within walking distance of each other), residents felt that they needed more space - hence another increase in business activity throughout 1916-1920s would be expected given this rapid growth pattern). With growing economic prosperity came increasing social stability which contributed to someinelli's nickname "The Peaceful Town." Many older residents still lived downtown while younger families moved into newer developments east of Main Street (the once congested commercial district now home to several restaurants).
