In 1886 they built a creek crossing at present day Central Avenue and started irrigating their fields using water diverted from Clear Creek which then ran through them into Longmont reservoir before emptying into Deer Creek near Thornton In 1912, when Arapaho County was created following Colorado's admission into the Union as a countryside state, Superior became one of its nine cities On November 3rd 1912 Superior voters passed an Ordinance creating an Municipal Corporation with three trustees elected at-large and subject only to state laws governing municipal corporations within Arapaho County The first election held pursuant to this ordinance took place on December 4th 1912 with James Gorman being elected Mayor On May 14th 1915 Sheriff Harvey Wickersham arrested thirty men found working on Tip O'Neill's ranch southwest of town on charges including belonging to a labor organization
