The first airguns were invented in the early 1800s. In 1847, a man named George Stephenson designed and built the first practical enginedriven locomotive. This locomotive was powered by an inflated ball of rubber and cloth that was fired by a hand-held cannon. The BALL so impressed Stephenson that he ordered several hundred of them made. In 1853, a man named John Fenton developed an airgun that could be bought from local gunsmiths for around $10 per gun. These guns were very inaccurate and used small shot instead of cannons to fire them. However, these guns did have one main advantage: they could be fired with ease from any open space near home or work. In 1865, George Hilliard created the FIRST real airgun! This weapon used compressed gas to shoot pellets through a trigger-activated mechanism onto an adjustable target at 100 yards away. At this point, airguns had become more advanced than shotgun weapons!

The economy of Superior has been dominated by the manufacturing sector since its inception; this includes such products as aluminum cans and agricultural equipment. However, over time there have also been some significant expansions into other sectors such as health care and education; both of which have helped contribute to the growth of the town over time. In recent years there has been some discussion about whether or not Superior should become an incorporated city; however, it appears that this would not be possible due to its small size relative to other communities within Colorado Springs region
