Steamboat Springs, Colorado is a town in Johnson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins–Aurora metropolitan area. Steamboat Springs is one of the oldest towns in Colorado and was founded on July 4, 1868 by pioneers John C. Fremont and James H. Watt. The first post office in Steamboat Springs was established on July 1, 1870; it was named for David Holcomb, who had come to the area from Arkansas two years earlier. The original store front featured a wooden sign that read "Holcomb's Store". In 1875, steamboats began stopping at Steamboat Landing for passengers and cargo. In 1876, an addition to the landing added passenger rooms and a sawmillinery section called The Lighthouse Shop. Passenger service stopped in 1901 because of technological advances; however, some traffic continued until 1907 when new tracks were built parallel to the river making transportation easier. In 1902-1903, Hugo Barth designed and built what became known as "The Berg" Dam which created Sunnyside Reservoir (now Lake Sunnyside) on the east side of town and increased water availability for irrigation purposes; this event also led to development around Sunnyside Drive including several homes that still stand today along with a number of businesses such as Kwik Trip (now Walmart), Dick's Sporting Goods (now Macy's), JB Hi-Fi (Now Lowe's), Western Wear & Supply (now Sears), Applebees (later Pizza Hut) and numerous others during what is now considered Downtown Steamboat Springs Historic District boundaries which run from First Street north to Pikes Peak Avenue east then south back up First Street to terminus at Main Street which forms Riverfront Park within limits included herein inclusive In 1913-14 when construction began on the present day Civic Center complex it resulted in over $500 thousand being invested by various citizens groups local taxpayers through bonds issue throughout year 1916 resulting finally in permanent structure coming into existence thereby inaugurating era of modern downtown design As early as 1924 there were plans underway for relocation or demolition of many buildings due primarily to unpredicted 1936 flooding which destroyed entire lower Main Street business district including most mercantile/shoplifting incidents taking place daily Prior 1955 establishment by City Council member Don Shoup commencement restoration project begun

The climate of Steamboat Springs is warm-summer Mediterranean with cool winters. There are no permanent residents, but over 10,000 tourists visit the city each year. The biggest attractions here include skiing and snowboarding; fishing; tubing; hiking; and horseback riding. There are also several restaurants and cafes that serve local produce and traditional global cuisine.

Steamboat Springs is a small, town in central Colorado, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gunnison County seat and the Steamboat Springs Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Steamboat Springs were farmers and their animals. The first store opened in 1875 and was operated by Wm. Henson and his son-in-law, Charles Auld. In 1892, Elisha Sprague built the Sprague Hotel on Main Street which became one of the most popular tourist attractions in town. One ofsprague's daughters ran the hotel until her death in 1959. Other early businesses include J & C Boot & Shoe Store (1897), Mr. Clausen's Bank (1907), Mrs. Clausen's Clothing Store (1910), Joe Crowley's Saloon (1912) and Harry Robb's Hardware Store (1920). It wasn't until January 1, 1907 that an electric streetcar service began operations between Steamboat Springs Junction on the north side of town and Aspen on the south side; this allowed people living on either side of town to visit each other without having to walk or take a car ride! In 1912, Steamboat Springs had its first movie theater: The Majestic Theatre located at 414 Main Street which offered shows from August through November each year during summertime when it was open for both indoor and outdoor performances! In 1925, John Dorman erected a new school building which served as accommodation for grades K-8 until 1937 when a new high school was built adjacent to Pikes Peak High School which replaced steamboats as primary transportation into Steamboat Springs! The post office closed down in 1951 due to lack of customers; however, correspondence continued to be sent via Kipling’s “mail boat” service until 1961 when all mail ceased operation due to budget cuts!! On July 5th 1956 local citizens placed an order with Ford Motor Company for 10 Model T sedans called “The Dearbornes” after Dodge cars manufactured by Ford since they were available at low prices during their 1957 model year campaign! As more residents moved into downtown Steamboat Springs over time they started taking up space around Main Street where streetlights used to line the entire street before being turned off permanently because there wasn't enough money raised from sales tax exemptions for replacement lights! On December 6th 2009 city officials voted not to ask voters for another $5 million increase in City Council funding towards lighting improvements because no changes are needed within 2 years according to previous surveys!!! This move left many people disappointed who felt that their hopes had been dashed once again!!! HoweverCity Manager Norm Shelly stated that prior studies have shown that "the number of pedestrians [and] bicyclists using Main Street has not increased significantly since 2007" so future lighting plans may still consider adding bike lanes or even turning off some lights at night depending on how busy/safe streets become
