Steamboat Springs, Colorado is home to one of the most well-known and iconic gun sights in the United States. The Rifle Range is a public shooting range located in the heart of Steamboat Springs. The range was established in 1892 and is still a popular destination for shooters around the world. The Rifle Range was originally known as the Elmira Public Shooting Grounds. It served as a training ground for local militia units during World War II and later became an official shooting range for Steamboat Springs residents. Today, visitors can come to the Rifle Range to experience some of the best NRA certified firearms classes and events available in town. The Rifle Range has been home to many famous Gun Owners Club members, including President Gerald Ford, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. In 1992, then-Mayor Phil Weiser dedicated the rifle range’s new building with significant funds from private donors. The current building at 4248 E 101st Ave includes a number of state-of-the-art amenities for shooters, such as a three-story indoor shoot pod that can accommodate up to 100 people at once, an outdoor banquet area that can seat up to 350 guests, and much more.

In 1876, local entrepreneur John Stillman built his first brewery in town and began brewing beer that became popular throughout Colorado. Steamboat Springs also became known for its hot springs which continued to be used until 1950 when they were closed due to pollution concerns.
