Pueblo is a small town located in the US state of Colorado. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Pueblo people are an indigenous people who call themselves the Ancestral Puebloan Heir apparenty from ancient ruins found near present day Pueblo. Their traditional lifestyle revolved around agriculture and hunting; their pottery and art date back to about 1000 CE. The first permanent European occupants of what is now Colorado were fur traders in 1776, who discovered and named Rocky Mountain Centre after this area on their way to trade with the Native American tribes in that region. In 1864, when Fort Larimer was built on the confluence of Clear Creek and Elk River, General James H Baker became superintendent of Indian Affairs for Colorado Territory. Baker recommended that Pueblo be placed within army jurisdiction because its Location posed a threat to Mexican interests in that area; as a result, it was given city status in 1865. In 1871 Mayor John Sweeny proposed giving Pueblo electric lights so that citizens could better see during night time emergencies like fires or floods; this proposal passed but without council approval due to lack of funding at the time In 1902 City Ordinance No 2 defined zoning regulations which would govern business operations within city limits In 1923 Wichita resident Harry Wurtzel organized " petition campaign" against annexation by Denver On November 4th 1924 Council approved annexation by Denver effective January 1st 1925 despite opposition from Wurtzel However further protests ensued until December 24th when Executive Order No 10 suspended annexations pending resolutions from both houses authorizing public hearings on potential annexation After hearing testimony from civic leaders and citizens concerned about possible adverse effects of annexation on local businesses and services,Denver voted down an amendment seeking annexation on May 8th 1926; however subsequent petitions were again filed with mayor Potter’s office challenging incorporation into Denver as a matter of law rather than ordinance . On October 26th 1929 Council granted incorporation with amended ordinances authorising establishment of schools (including gymnasium), fire department, library system etc.; following incorporation oil exploration beganng making headway in those areas annexed by Denver culminating with gas drilling rigs being spotted offsite near downtown activities stopped completely Effective January 1st 1930 all activities within municipal boundaries were proscribed including police response times
