Pueblo was founded by the Spanish in 1670, and became a United States territory in 1848. The town was named for the ancient Puebloan people who lived there before the arrival of the Spanish. Today, Pueblo is a small city with a population of around 100,000. It is home to several major tourist attractions, such as Mesa Verde National Park and the Gila River Museum.
