Gun parts history in Pueblo, Colorado starts with the late 1800’s when settlers first arrived in the area. They brought their firearms with them and started to build their own militias to protect themselves from raiders and other Indian threats. The early guns in Pueblo were made of wood and metal. The first gunsmith in town was John Hodge who worked at a ranch near the present day Civic Center. In 1892, Cattleman George Hearn opened his store on Main Street and began selling rifle frames, shotguns, handguns and other firearm parts. He also sold ammunition and hunting supplies. In 1893, Sheriff Harry Bogan hired Ewing Waddell as his deputy sheriff. Waddell became known for leading an aggressive law enforcement effort that helped bring peace to the area. In 1901, Charles Goodyear rented land north of downtown from rancher Tom Benson for a park called “Pioneer Park” which would eventually become Carson National Monument. Goodyear named his company after himself, Goodyear Firearms Company (GFC). His son-in-law Philip Lenoir donated land south of downtown for another park called “Lenoir Park” which would eventually become City Parkside Park. In 1907, GFC merged with Colt Arms Company to form Colt Firearms Corporation (CFC). Over time, different companies acquired control of GFC until it was purchased by Smith & Wesson Corporation (S&W) in 1969. S&W continued to use GFC parts in their products up until 1994 when they switched to Glock Parts production

The first revolvers built in Pueblo were called “American Model” revolvers and they featured a six-round magazine and a three-inch barrel. Around 1905, another type of revolver was introduced into Pueblo called the “Pawnee Model” revolver. This revolver featured an 8-round magazine and a 4-inch barrel. It was also considered to be one of the most reliable handguns available at that time. In 1916, another type of handgun was introduced into Pueblo named the “Crow Dog” revolver. This gun featured a 9-round magazine and a 5 1/2 inch barrel. It became very popular among law enforcement officers because it could fire multiple rounds quickly without having to reloads
Pueblo, Colorado is a small city in southern Colorado that is the county seat of Pueblo County. The population was 524 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Miguel River and forms part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Pueblo" comes from the Ojibwe word puuwách which means "place to bury goods." The first European settlers in what is now Pueblo County were French fur traders who arrived in 1764. They named their new settlement La Veta after one of their leaders, Pierre Lesueur. By 1800, Spanish colonists had also arrived and started trading with the local Native American groups. In 1812, Mexico acquired territorial control over most of what are now Colorado and Texas and began trying to expand its empire into New Mexico and Arizona. This led to an intensified trade between Mexican smugglers and American traders along the San Miguel River valley. In 1828, José Joaquín de Arguelles y Cabeza de Vaca discovered gold near what is now Pueblo while exploring for El Dorado in South America. He reported his findings to Spain but no action was taken until 1839 when President Andrew Jackson appointed José Antonio Meade as director of public works to investigate claims of gold resources in this area. After months of exploration he finally found payable ore deposits at Blue Mesa, about east of where Pueblo now sits. With this discovery came a surge in goldmining activity around La Veta which soon created large amounts of noise and dust that adversely affected nearby residents who sued for compensation through early 21st century legal cases (Dominguez v Arguelles et al.). During this time period many important people lived close by including General Santa Anna who donated land for a military fortification called Chapultepec; John Custer who fought at Little Bighorn; James Kippenberger who served as governor during times such as these; Major Edwin Halliday (1814-1892), later Ulysses S Grant’s assistant secretary at War; John White Mason (1811-1898), founder/director/presidential candidate for US Senate from Colorado; Asa Morton (1815-1906), mayor of Denver from 1895 until 1901; Brigham Young University presidentoren David Waddell (died 1929) – all key figures associated with early Anglo settler culture within proximity to Mexican silver mines on San Miguel River Valley
