Pueblo, Colorado is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. Pueblo is the county seat of Douglas County. It lies on the San Juan River and shares borders with Mancos and Trinidad to the east and west. The first Europeans to visit Pueblo were traders from Mexico City in 1540, who named it after their city of Querétaro. In 1692, Puebloan Diego de Alcalá y Argüello founded a settlement here which he named Providencia because he found relief from an epidemic there. Spanish settlers arrived in increasing numbers during the 18th century; by 1776 about 60% of the population had moved to Colorado Territory. This period is typically called "The Mexican Period" of Pueblo history because most major changes occurred outside of its control while its inhabitants were stillabeling themselves Mexicans. In 1875, when Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RG) started construction of their line through Douglas County, they chose to build their depot at what is now downtown Pueblo rather than farther south where they would have competition from coal operators. The railroad brought prosperity to downtown Pueblo and numerous new businesses were built – including Jardin Pharmacy in 1903 and First National Bank Building in 1907 – along with new public buildings such as the courthouse (built 1887), schoolhouse (1898), Post Office (1910), sheriff's office (1911), hospital (1920–21) and library (1927). Businesses ashore also benefited:ELTA Transfer Company Dockyard opened in 1912 as one of first commercial docks on American River near present-day Downtown Denver for loading and unloading goods destined for southern Mexico;[3]and Donnybrook Lumber Company got its start here in 1916.[4] During World War II many local men went into service on D-Day as part of Combat Infantry Units or other military units engaged throughout Europe; some remain unidentified today but are thought to include Private Ryan,[5][6] Sergeant Major James Ewing,[7][8][9][10] Captain John Horsfall,[11] Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer[12], Warrant Officer First Class Leroy Sibley,[13][14] Private First Class Forrest Aiello,[15][16], Corporal Gustavus Engelhardt[17]) among others

Pueblo, Colorado is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado and the county seat of Pueblo County. The population was $51,385 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The ruins of what is now Pueblo were first settled in the late 18th century by Native Americans who called it Ute Village, after their chief warrior Ute Mountain. In 1859, when Colorado became a territory of Mexico, settlers from Kansas City founded Fort Lyon to protect American citizens traveling through Mexicali on their way to Santa Fe. When Mexico ceded California to United States in 1846, most Mexican settlers left for America but a small group of Porchos remained behind and began trading with US traders and ranchers at various Indian villages along the southern borderlands. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Union forces attacked Confederate forces at Roswell Station just south of present day Pueblo while Confederate General Sterling Price was visiting nearby eastern New Mexico Territory under orders from President Abraham Lincoln to prepare for an upcoming attack on that territory by Union forces commanded by Major General William Tecumseh Sherman. The site where Roswell had taken place is now known as Kingsbury Field National Monument. On July 16th 1865 (the date which would have been celebrated as Independence Day in Arizona), Colonel John Chivington reported back to Grant that there was no evidence that any human beings had ever landed on or stepped ashore onros Island near Roswell – thus endangering national security – making him retroactively responsible for the fact that an event which could have caused public embarrassment had actually occurred! In 1870 Pueblo became one of 54 towns organized within newly created Douglas County when silver was discovered in northern Arapaho County east of Mesa de Chelly National Monument; this event helped stimulate trade between Pueblo and Silver City along Arizonas Rio Grande Trail (now I-10). By 1886 over 1 million acres (4100 km²) had been irrigated with water diverted from Animas River due to heavy gold mining activity near Nowata; this production stimulated growth and numerous businesses were established throughout downtown Pueblo including many breweries which continue today such as Heineken USA headquarters adjacent to First Baptist Church plaza across from Interstate 25 exit ramp leading north into Denver proper
