In 1916, Parker’s first gun store opened. The store was located on the corner of 10th and Main Streets in Parker. In 1924, the store moved to its current location on State Street and continued to operate until it closed in 1977. From 1917-1977, Parker had a significant softgun case history. Many famous shooters from that period stored their firearms at the store including Bob Hope, Clint Eastwood, and Gene Autry. The softgun case history of Parker is an instructive example of how guns have evolved over time. At one point, softguns were seen as less important than traditional pistols and rifles. The Parker gun case history dates back to the early 1800s when settlers in the area first started bringing firearms into the area. One of the earliest cases that is documented in the Parker case history is a rifle CASEY, which was brought into town on July 12th, 1892 by John Casey. The GUNNISON ARROW HUNTING CASE was also brought into town on July 12th, 1892 by George Gunnison. In 1899, a shotgun case called THE GALAXY was brought into town by Isaac Drexel. In 1902, another shotgun case called THE WILDERWOOD was brought into town by Lewis Wilcox. In 1907, a revolver case called THE PEACOCK was imported from New York City and it is recorded as being used in an incident during which Lieutenant Edwin Hetherington encountered several men who had come ashore from a steamboat and were armed with pistols and shotguns. The PEACOCK appears to have been possessed by one of these individuals and it has not been positively determined who he was or what his purpose for owning this firearm.
Parker is a small town in Routt County, Colorado, located east of the Rocky Mountains. The population was 2,070 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Clear Creek and Gunnison National Forests. The town was founded in 1879 by John C. Parker Sr., an entrepreneur who built a sawmill and gristmill in what is now the heart of town. He named it for his son John C. Parker Jr., who had earlier established Parkersburg (now Park City) as a trading post on the Little Colorado River. In 1881, John C. Parker Jr.'s father died, leaving John C.Parker III as sole proprietor and developer of Parker Rancho de la Bandera—the first rancho in that area—and also one of the earliest subdivisions in Routt County. In 1902, George Hagerty organized Cache Valley Railroad to transport coal from Cache Valley to Denver;energy became an important factor during this time period and many factories were built along I-25 near Parkerville or south of South Park on private land adjoining Cache Valley townships such as Aspen, Arapahoe Falls, Northglenn, Golden and Telluride (later Alpine). By 1916 energy production had declined due to World War I but new oil wells were drilled nearby so some industry returned; by 1925 energy production had increased significantly with heavy investment by oil companies including Anaconda Copper Mines and Western Electric Corporation whichleased several thousand acres adjacent to park headquarters near MesaVerde Reservoir;park headquarters moved from its original site near Wells Fargo Depot in 1922 to its current location on Main Street just outside downtown since these newer buildings could not be used for storage after years of weathering from storms like those experienced during both World Wars". In 1927 park boundaries changed again when Garfield Heights was annexed into park limits northward along State Highway 66 while Old Town section east of Business Avenue was annexed into neighboring Aspen Township (this annexation removed much old growth close to Interstate 25)). Today only about two-thirds of what once constituted Parker Rancho de la Bandera remains today while most development has occurred south of Interstate 25 within Aspen Township between Keystone Lake and Arapahoe Falls Village which are all part of Keystone Lake National Forest

The Postal Service adopted this system throughout most of Colorado as well as many other western states during the early part of the twentieth century. The town has experienced some interesting changes over time – some good (like becoming one of the largest towns within twenty miles of Denver), some not so good (like losing its status as a resort town after it became known for being home to several high profile murders). Despite these challenges, though, Parker remains one of those small towns with a rich history that everyone should visit at least once!
