In 1902 Pte John Fenton began construction of what would become one of history's most famous dams on US 90 just south of town –today known as Lake Powell Boulevard (). This $5 million project brought much excitement to the small community that had grown up around it and created many jobs for local farmers while also providing important water supplies for downstream towns such as Grand Forks and Stevens Point. Today, thanks to Fenton Dam's continuing operation – including its recreation areas – Parkers rich history can be enjoyed by all who visit its charming town square where each day sees fresh examples of ranching architecture dating back to before incorporation into Douglas County!
