John and Sam Parker died in 1925 and their sonSamuel took over the company. He continued to produce high-quality tools until his death in 1954. Over time, more people moved into the area and started trading with other settlements in nearby Nebraska and Kansas. By 1892, there were over 100 residents living in Parker County. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for many people in the county because it was part of an agricultural depression era which caused low incomes and high food prices. However, through hard work and determination, many people persevered during these tough times. One of the most memorable moments from this period happened when county voters passed a resolution stating that Prohibition should be repealed due to its negative effects on society as a whole. This decision helped Toeppen Brewery move to Colorado Springs from Omaha, Nebraska in 1912 and help create what is now one of Colorado's largest brewery communities. Parker County continued to grow during World War II when soldiers recruited from throughout Western Colorado brought technology back home with them after serving in The Pacific Theater of Operations. Many businesses such as Cattlemen's Supply store (later JB Hi-Lift) opened up thanks to wartime spending by local citizens who contributed goods or money as war debt repayments. On November 4, 1876, Parker was named in honor of General James K. Polk, the United States' 25th president. The town's first post office opened on July 1, 1877. In 1880, the Colorado and Utah Railroad passed through the town, making it an important transportation hub for miners travelling to and from the gold fields of northern Colorado and southern Utah.
