Parker, Colorado is a town located in the western United States. The population was 10,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Parker were farmers and their families who immigrated from England in 1859. They built log cabins on what is now known as Old Parker Road. By 1870, Parker had a post office and two stores. In 1876, surveyors named Parker after General John A. Parker who fought in the Mexican–American War and afterwards became an American hero. In 1907, a school was built for students in eastern Parkersburg Township (now part of Aurora). On October 1, 1907, Parkersburg Township voters passed a resolution to annex the village of East Aurora into Parkersburg Township; this annexation created the current town of Parker. The new town had its own fire department and zoning regulations which set it apart from other towns within Auroras boundaries until incorporation as a municipality on November 3, 1925 On July 1, 1928 residents of Aurora annexed portions of east Parkersburg Township including parts of west Parkersburg Township which had been annexed by Aurora on October 1st that year On January 5th 1935 both Aurora and Parkersburg Townships merged to form one new municipality called "Parker." This amalgamation created an urban area with over 10K people with its own government composed mainly of elected officials appointed through open selection process rather than election as was common at the time

In 1896, Parker donated land to build a high school in honor of his wife Cornelia (1865-1927). The school was dedicated on May 8, 1897, and it served grades 9 through 12 until it closed in 1962. Today, Parkers High School still serves as one of the primary educational institutions in the town. During World War II, Parker played an important role as both an airfield and manufacturing center for aircraft components produced by Douglas Aircraft Company Ltd., one of America's leading manufacturers at that time. Douglas Aircraft moved its main production location from Wichita Heights to Parker after World War II ended so that it could be closer to customers throughout North America. AfterDouglas left Parker for good in 1957, other local companies continue to produce components there until 1977 when all production stopped due to scarce resources
Parker, Colorado was founded on December 1, 1870 by Hiram Parker and his wife Clara. The town originally consisted of only a few homes and small businesses. By the end of the decade, Parker had developed into a thriving community with several businesses and a population of around 100 people. In 1881, the town became a county seat after it was reorganized from parts of Clear Creek County. The years following World War II were rough for Parker as many residents left to find jobs in other parts of the country. However, through hard work and determination, the town bounced back and resumed its growth in the 1950s. Today, Parkers economy is based largely on tourism which contributes significantly to its $2 million annual budget.
