In 1915, Parkers donated land for what would become University City which became home to Colorado State University (now CU) and other locally significant institutions before eventually becoming heavily developed into an urban area with over 20 blocks of commercial space on New York Avenue between First Street and Broadway between 1914 and 1946 alone.� From its inception through World War II, Parker saw rapid growth due to its location within easy reach of major east-west highways, industry, agriculture (primarily livestock), mining operations (including lead mining), military bases (such as Fort Carson), as well as tourism opportunities generated by six nearby ski resorts.� The boom ended when Interstate 25 bypassed Greeley during the late 1960s but much of what once characterized parker's commercial landscape remains� today � especially on New York Avenue where business districts have arisen around four large shopping malls.�
The first person to settle in the area that is now Parker County was David McNaught in 1801. The town of Parker was founded by him and others nearby in 1802. By 1805, the population of Parker had grown to over 100 people. In 1861, the county was created from parts of Larimer and Weld Counties. As a result, Parker County became one of Colorado's fastest-growing counties. In 1969, it became a part of the United States after it attained statehood.
