Parker, who had settled in the area in 1876. In 1925, the town became a part of the newly created Mesa County. Parkers downtown business district dates back to 1915 when two general stores were built on Main Street. The first store closed in 1978 but reopened as Findlay's Bazaar & Grill in 2002. Today, Findlay's anchors the center of downtown and serves as an anchor for other businesses around it including several restaurants and a movie theater complex known as The Majestic Theatre Complex.
In 1876, a party of eight men from Parker Colorado set out on horseback to explore the new lands that lay beyond the rancho. They named their new settlement "Parker" after the eight men and their mounts. The first permanent settlers in what is now Parker County were John C. Fremont, James W. Krieger and George Hinkle who arrived in 1877. In 1880, another group of pioneers landed at Cherry Creek on the eastern edge of modern Parker County and named their town "Cherry Creek."
