It was renamed Parkerville on October 15, 1896 after J.A. Parker's daughter Margaret (Maggie) Parkerville had married William Dyer of Westminster, Colorado. On May 21, 1898, the first oil well drilled in Weld County was discovered in Parkerville and named for J.A. and Maggie Parker with Wells Fargo as the drillers-in-charge In 1907, Parker incorporated as a city under the name of Thornton City Combined Statistical Area with a population of 30 residents per square mile (12/km²). On November 8 of that year it became an independent city again when its citizens ratified an amendment to the city charter making it an "amalgamation" or merger of two other small towns located within its boundaries: Union City and Windsor Heights In 1916 Venice Township merged into Parkerville; this happened because both communities were struggling economically due to high levels of immigration from Mexico during World War I which had resulted in many joblessness among Mexican American workers in Denver and Broomfield counties east of Denver . That same year Parkerville annexed part of Venice Township which had been inactive since 1911 . In 1922 Aurora annexation took place when Aurora City officials decided that they wanted to annex all or most of what is now Weld County including much rural terrain near Boulder Airport On February 14th 1959 Mayor Harry Heineman announced that the community would become known as "Parker" after General George Washington who fought at Yorktown during America's war against Great Britain
